30 in 30 schedule: Breaking down teams in August

On Friday, NHL.com begins its annual state-of-the-team look at each of the 30 NHL franchises. Each day, a new organization will be put in the spotlight with a package of stories and videos designed to provide a snap shot of where the team stands after the busy personnel months of June and July and before preseason activities begin. Among the features each day will be an in-depth look at each team's current roster, the identification of an x-factor player for the upcoming season, an examination of the franchise's top prospects, most-pressing questions facing the organization and a projected lineup for the 2014-15 season.

Fair enough, though Brind'amour also played for St. Louis and Carolina...

I think you're right. I still believe Lee or Papelbon could get dealt in August but Amaro will continue to demand top of the line prospects and end up with players to be named later.

Why he still has a job just mystifies me. He took a very successful franchise and in just a few years ran it into the ground. Hell, Cliff Lee should have been traded last year. The Howard contract is just a joke. While I love Utley, he should be gone by 4pm today. Papelbon, with the money they are paying him, should have NEVER been given the right to block trades to more than 3 or 4 teams, if that. Byrd should be traded today, the friggin list is endless.

My grandfather, who grew up in Philly in the early part of the 20th century, was always an A's fan as they were, by far, the top franchise in Philly back then. If Amaro is still employed by the Phils at the start of spring training, I will be an A's fan as well. I'm just that angry!

We should steal Billy Beane from them

I'd drive to Oakland and personally escort him here. I'd also make sure Amaro disappeared for good, just sayin....

He asks for way too much. Teams will give up 1 decent prospect if they Phillies pay a lot of the salary. All of the players have these vesting options which will be met and the other teams will either take them on or be forced to pay a significant buyout. His negotiating is putrid.

I would too. To be honest, I think I'd have a good time driving cross country and picking up Billy Beane. It would be fun talking to him on the way home too

Did Holmgren Jr. trade Marlon Byrd to the (frank)ing Yankees for a pile of dogpoop?

New Topic: Which current Flyers end up in the Flyers H of F

I'd say:
Locks: Giroux, Timonen
If they win a cup while he's still here: Coburn

if they play here long enough: Couturier, Voracek

On the bubble: Simmonds

Also if he stays here for a few years and they win a cup with him: Mason

thoughts?

I wouldn't say Giroux is a lock yet, but I would say he's damn close. Timonen is a lock though.

Edirt: I think a lot of it has to do with longevity. We all probably thought Richards was a lock.

Unless he completely falls apart or is traded in the next year or 2, I can't see Giroux not getting in.

Didn't Beane just trade their # 3 hitter for a 2 month rental? If the A's don't win the World Series, he's going to look stupid. They aren't re-signing Lester.
