People, please realize that this is for an RFA 1 year contract and not long term. The real negotiations are being done for a long-term contract (which included 2 RFA years and a max of 6 UFA years). If the Habs sign him long term, Habs are definitely offering more that the 5M. A final deal would look more like "the first 2 years (RFA years) will be around 6.5 the the last 6 years will be ranging from 8.5 to 13.5. Making the AAV for 8 years between 8 and 9 million"

No panic needed

Saying PK is better than Chara right now based on one playoffs. (i.e. what we were just talking about )

Based on that, McDonagh is better than Subban.

Hilarious that a blog is written saying Subban is looking for $8,.5 million a year......fallacy. Show me one place where Subban's camp said they are looking for $8.5 million a year?

What has been reported is that Subban is looking to make $8.5 next year on a 1 year deal. Very different.

Nowhere has anyone reported what Subban is asking for on a 2 year or 4 year or even 8 year deal. What he is saying is that next year on a one year deal I want to be the highest paid D-men in the league making $800k more than Shea Weber.

So if he thinks he should be making almost $1 million more than any D man next year then what do you think his price is on a long term. My guess is somewhere around $80-85 million over 8 years.

I'm sorry but no.

Settling for arbitration is a completely different game. He knows he won't get 8,5M$ on arbitration and off course, MB knows it won't be 5,25M$ either.

Look at Eller's negociation. Was asking for 3.1M$ and MB was offering 1,65M$ for 1 year. The 2 RFA years have been settle for 2,5M$ each, which is the average between there numbers.

PK would make approximately 7M$ on arbitration for 1 year or 2. Both sides know this.

What is known is they both want 8 yaers and the first 2 years will be 7M$ a year. The balance of the contract is still a guess both logically, it will probably start at 9 and end at 11-12M$ a year.

So it will be about 8 years for 72-76 M$

They're very tough to compare... having a completely different game.

This being said, I'll give you that it's debatable either way.

In my comment above, pray tell where I mention either Chara or Subban? Now get some rest, you need it.

honestly, I saw a player huffing and puffing the entire conference final in Subban, and besides being world's better defensively than Subban, McDonagh also added 10 points in 6 games.
