Dan Hamhuis player more than him.
- Nucker101

the waterboy got more ice time than PK. 11 mins in a blowout game, why was he even on the team?

fine Subban will be making 9 mil a year well into his 30's. thats if he doesnt go to arbitration. I cant believe this guy is gonna be the highest pair D man in the league, because he is probably top 15, at best a top 10 d-man.
- GardinerExpress

Statements like that are so stupid.

He's going to be getting more money, because he's the most recent to sign a contract. The cap, the average salary, and what high end players command are always going up. Anyone who you'd list as better than Subban hasn't signed a contract under the circumstances he is. Trying to compare their contracts is pointless.

Because some fool managed to brainwash Babcock into thinking Hamhuis is somehow better than Subban.

He is a game changer - and this is where he is bumping up his salary demands

so he deserves 3-3.5 more than 2 time norris winner Duncan Keith?

2.5
2.5
4.25
4.75

They are projecting he will be a #2 type centre in years 3 and 4

Exactly the same in the gardiner deal for years 3 4 5

PK is better on the PP. But Hamhuis is the safe reliable pick. I would of done the same. And it's hard to argue that they made the wrong decision by putting Hamhuis in and not subban because they won the gold medal.....

That was a13 year cap circumventing deal at a lower salary cap

Still we could have used him on the powerplay. I'm pretty sure we would have won gold with PK in the lineup also.

not if they sign the 1 year arbitration...read the 2012 NHL collective bargaining agreement. After a player signs their 3 professional contract they become UFA's

Is that Reimer deal still going down? Or still waiting on clitsome?

I guess what I'm trying to say is if Dion had a true #1 ahead of him on defense depth chart, he'd be more effective and thus, worth more. Still 7 mil is too much even if he's the best you got on D.
- habfanforever

The contract is definitely ugly. I am not defending it at all, except to say that it's far from the worst contract in the league. It's not even the worst contract the Leafs have signed recently!

If Phaneuf had a true defensive d-man, one worthy of top line minutes, I don't think anybody would question whether he was a solid top line d-man. Especially on a weak team like Toronto. He still wouldn't be up there among the $7mil+ d-men, but his contract would look a little too big instead of way too big.

The level of incompetence on this site is incredible. This is a negotiation... the offer was for 1 RFA year only... The real talks are for a longer term deal with 2 RFA years included and some UFA years. If Subban sign for a longer term deal, his AAV will be at or higher than then 8.5. Why is this so hard to understand.

Same thing happen last time. Everyone thought Subban was going to sign for 6.5 or more and everyone was shocked that he signed for only 2.8 AAV. The reason why it was so low it was because Habs only did a deal for his RFA years and didn't buy any UFA years. Same thing this year. If he signs only 1 RFA year, the amount will be lower (6.5 range) but if they go long term and by UFA years, then it will be in the 8 to 9 AAV range. This is not complicated.

how so? Keith makes 5.5. Subban wants 10. whats idiotic as you not backing up your statement. so yeah (frank) off
- GardinerExpress

Because Keith signed a 13 year deal that would be considered cap circumvention now. The fact that the Cap is considerably higher, the contract structure is far more limited and the salary demands of players are far higher means the fact that Subban is signing NOW results in him getting more than Keith. If Keith were signing this summer how much do you think he'd be getting? 5.5? No, He'd be making 9-10.

By your dumb logic, the fact that half the league makes more than Gretzky ever did, means everyone is an overpaid POS.

Or he could have made a bone headed hot dog play and cost us a game.
Why risk it with a guy who doesnt know where his own side of the rink is, when we had a safe reliable guy in hamhuis. Canada took gold, its only the habs fans that really whined about PK not playing.

Great player. So dynamic. But imo one cant be considered a top 5 defenceman unless theyre just as dominant in their own end.
He isnt that just yet

ok so you are bringing up a guy that has been retired 15 years to make your point? pretty dumb.
How about Pietrangelo, Karlsson and Mcdonaugh. They make 4.7-6.5. no cap circumventing.

I hope PK wrangles every cent out of the habs. 9, 9.5 whatever. Highest paid d-man in league history and the guy is top 10 at best

No way MTL can win this fight. They rolled the dice a couple years ago and lost HUGE... And now it's time to pay the man!

Stick'em for eight figures, PK!
