That would work. Just have to find some GM stupid enough to do it.

Never know, teams like Flames could take on all that if they added a sweetner like a prospect or pick.

Retained Glencross Salary (1.25m) and a lower asset for Versteeg, Rozsival, and a kicker (1st)? Would give them rougly under 1m in cap space. Granted I think Glencross is worth more than that but I can see a deal like that with a team being put together so they can get an extra 1st rounder in 2015 (which is going to be huge for that draft)

Moving sharp would be a mistake, but if dont correctly they could get enough young assets to really add to their prospect/young player pipeline.

But if they could send Versteeg and Rozsival in a package, that would be enough. Oduya would be a last resort since hes good.

oilers can sure help by taking on Seabrook and Sharp

Glencross isn't likely the guy that would be on the move from our side. With BT's attempted draft day moves, I could see him being willing to take on Versteeg and Rosival, but I don't see him giving up a real asset for it. Maybe a player like David Jones, with Chicago being forced to throw in a good prospect for the cap help.

I thought Jones initially but they cant take on that salary, even if its retained by half. To get under the cap with their overages, they can only take on a max of about 1.5m if they use Versteeg and Rozsival. They do own the rights to Hayes till August 15th, Johnny Hockeys line mate. So they could use that in a package.

So retained Glencross, Backlund only really make sense if they are giving up 2 roster players and a 1st rounder. Unless Hawks move Oduya instead of Rozsival. Which makes it a whole new conversation.

Or a slightly less deal instead, shipping out a Bouma or Knight for Versteeg and Rozsival. I do think a deal could work out bw the 2 teams.

1. Send down Tuevo to Rockford.
2. Send down Rozsival. If he doesn't clear waivers, and a team claims him, all good. If he clears waivers, all good. If he cleared, and since his contract was not signed *AFTER his 35th birthday, he would not count against the salary cap while playing in Rockford.
3. Call up Dalhbeck with the difference in salary after the first two moves to split time with Rundblad as the 6th defenseman.
4. Why in the world would Bowman give up a first round pick to move salary like in your example?
5. Versteeg will be better this year with a full summer to rehab his knee. I could see a 45-50 point season.
6. Hawks have lots of options yet before the season starts and most of them allow them to get under the salary cap without giving up too much/losing a major player.

*edited. I had written "before". I meant that his contract was not signed after his 35th birthday.

Are you saying this because of Boudreau's coaching style?

This isn't exactly correct. Only part of his salary wouldn't count, think it's like 975k

Also want to say I agree with Rangers fans on Dan Boyle, that seems like a great move. For a team that often had to pull out Girardi, Stralman, Staal or an ineffective Moore on the PP they need a guy like Boyle. Plus without having to be "the guy" for the first time in years, likely getting some softer competition, he should be in for a great year.

You are correct sir!!!! My bad.
"Under the 2013 CBA, a team only derives a specific savings from demoting a player on a one-way contract to the AHL. This savings is calculated as league minimum plus $375,000."
With the 2014-15 minimum salary set as $550,000 = 550k + 375k = $925k in savings.

So for the example I posted, the Hawks would still have to make another move if Rozsival cleared waivers.

The 1st is to get a retained salary in Glencross who is a good player to pick up on the cheap. But I was just spit balling ideas, not really thought out completely. I just can see a deal like that.

Sort of like how the Flames traded Kotalik and a 2nd to the Sabres just for them to take him off the Flames hands

Regher, Kotalik, and a 2nd for Butler and Bryon

It was a great deal, and now that he can breathe the air of freedom more readily, maybe he can learn to use his line mates effectively.

versteeg isn't what the flames need at all anyways. last thing they need is to add another LW.

Moving away any assets should at least focus on the weaker right side and D for the short term.

lost in all this is that Anaheim now has fanboy TheNucker. I'd give it a pass for that reason alone
