If he would have signed 5 X 5 - 2 seasons ago - when that contract would have expired he would have been a UFA

3 years from now - when that contract would have expired - 30 teams would have been bidding on him - driving up the price to well over $10M - $11M
With the cap going up with GMs bidding that total is realistic especially when a few weeks ago we saw crazy contracts for Bolland - Orpik etc

Today - they are the only team that can bid on him and lock him up for 8 years
