Kadri Bernier 2014-15 Just under 6M cap hit
What do they get this summer?
Kadri - $5.5
Bernier -$5.5
I think the numbers start there after the Gardiner signing |

You know what's also all kinds of stupid? Saying something won't work when you don't know if it's true or not. I think the way things have gone this summer points to gardiner being on the 1st pair and I dont think it will be as bad as you make it out to be. - burn
I don't think he'll be able to reply Burn; shortly after this he dropped out a pretty racist comment which got deleted rapidly, so I think that was Yeti giving him the hook |

Means nothing, Leafs have money coming out their bunghole. It's the AAV hit I fret about. |

You know what Gardiner's contract is? The opposite of what the Leafs usually do. Gardiner has taken a little time to develop, a bit of friction with the coach and usually, that's a guy the Leafs just give away for free. Like Alex Steen. This time around, they see the talent and the potential and they locked him up. It's a good contract. |

Especially if Gards becomes what I think a lot of us feel he will become. With how expensive d-men are these days, will be a steal in those years. Problem is, if he's that good, the following contract will be tough. |

Understood - but in Years 3 4 and 5 - their projection is that Jake will be well over a $4M per dman - but his actual cap hit will only be $4.05
They may lose on years 1 and 2 - but they are taking a calculated risk based on his development that the team will win big in years 3, 4, 5 |

He definitely slowed them down last year. Which is why they kept trying different players to play with them. If he doesn't show improvement in camp/pre-season, there's absolutely no reason to start him on the 2nd line just because he's making 2nd line $
To the original poster. Where's Franson? I don't get why everyone is so down on him, and willing to give him away for nothing. He is great on the pp. If anything put him on the bottom pairing and give him sheltered minutes.
Some people earlier putting Gards on the 1st pairing with Phanuef is just ludicris. His worst aspect of his game is defense and you want to play him 25 mins a night against the oppositions best lines, thats all kinds of stupid. Leafs need a stay at home, solid defensive player to play beside Phanuef....if only there was one out there obtainable - LeafsBlueline
Gardiner is better than Franson.
leafs need a hybrid, beside Phaneuf, and they have 2 of them coming in Percy and Finn. Once Percy is,ready I,think he will pair very well, with Phaneuf |
