Anything short of 2nd line and the guy is wickedly overpaid. - Atomic Wedgie
if he can play 15 mins and put up 30-35 points in a checking-type role that's a reasonable contract, i think. but it's quite a leap to assume he can do that. |

I suppose they're hoping Gardiner signs for 3/year since that's all they have left? Or is a trade coming? |

Ummm that's exactly what's expected of Winnik... and he signed for 1 yr/ 1.3mil just before August. |

If you think 2.95m is 2nd line money in today's new NHL moving forward you're smoking with Rob Ford.
2.95m is cheap 3rd line. Believe it. |

Not many 2 liners are getting 3 million a year they are generally 4 to 5 range.. |

They only have to fit their active roster under the cap once (or just before) the season starts. If they have to pay Jake 4 mill, they can put one or two one-way contracts in the minors to clear the room. |

Based upon both history and my own two eyes, I believe Booth has a much better chance of doing that.
Based upon stats, I also believe Winnik and Santorelli have a greater chance of doing that than Komarov.
Their three salaries combined are a little more than Komarov's, and they only have 3 years of contract amongst them, compared to Komarov's 4. |

if the Leafs get 35 points and 15 minutes of solid defensive hockey out of Winnik then that contract is an absolute steal. |

Yeah but Komarov racks up way more 'hits' (read: bounces/rolls off guys) and was determined to be the sole reason why the Leafs didn't make the playoffs last year. |

I was shocked when I saw what they paid him. Most of us in here were saying 2mill max. Does he deserve a better contract because he speaks multiple languages? - 1979AD

Franson and reimer to Winnipeg for clitsome and a 2nd.
You heard it here first folks - jbold
I believe the Leafs would be better off taking Joshua Morrissey over Clitsome |
