Actually it's Komarov*, we have 3 right handed D and Phaneuf who prefers to play right, so we actually have a bit of a mismatch, which is one reason their is an inclination that Franson will be moved, but rather than speculate just threw him somewhere that makes sense, regardless I didn't put a lot of thought into the D pairings.

Either way you're a jerk, and despite posting you didn't really say anything.

PK wanted 5/25. And say Montreal signs him 8 years now.
That means the first 3 years Montreal pays more but that they save over the last 5, when PK is in his prime. The people who laugh at Montreal don't realize that he'd be a UFA in 3 years.

- DoubleDown

but you are assuming montreal signs him for 8. PK wanted 5/25, but the habs werent gonna bring him right to UFA. Maybe they woulda wanted 6/30 or 7/35.
The habs are gonna lose in the neighborhood of 4 million cap per year (for the next 3 years), by not signing PK long term earlier. How much do you honestly think they save over the duration of the contract with him making close to 9?

edit: this also assumes Subban is a greedy d-bag. Kessel signed long term for 8 per when facing UFA. The habs fans that argue Bergevin will save them money in the long run, are expecting Subban to have demanded 12 million, when faced with UFA

I agree. I loved Bolland, but at that price and his age it seems like buying high. It might have been a good fold for the Leafs on Bolland.

I always liked McClement and Kulemin but McClement lost it last year and Kulemin just hasn't brought enough to start upping his cap hit just because of seniority and UFA.

Clearly the PK wasn't working either, it's been so bad switching it up at random couldn't be any worse at this point.

- Zezel

Exactly, hopefully the change of coaching and personnel gives us a push in the right direction.

Komarov, Bozak, Santorelli, Winnik will probably get most of the work, with JVR and Kontiola/Holland also pitching it. It's too early to say but that seems like an improvement to me.

(frank)ing sportsnet

I'd bet Nonis offered one, good thing the CBA only allows those clauses for unrestricted free agents.

- Tumbleweed

If the deal goes into any of his UFA years they can offer a NTC (Landeskog has one) Did that contract burn up one year of his UFA status if so yes they could have offered him one

it's a bad trade.

He's a solid bottom pairing dman and would be a better fit in our group of 6 than Franson, but the trade is not good value for Leafs.

Franson for Clitsome and a 3rd would be reasonable. Basically assigning Reimer almost zero value.

Not WAY off mind you, but Leafs should get more.

Franson for Clitsome straight up.

Reimer for a 2nd.

Great value seeing how I would give them up for a bag of pucks.

I never got the chance to converse with UG, but I did read the banter on these threads while he was still posting. He always seemed to be the first person awake in the morning.

I really didn't want to get hung up over this, I put him in there because there isn't an obvious player whose going to play on the top pairing. I honestly don't know if he's going to be in a Leaf uniform come September.

With that being said; sure I'll take the argument.
Franson is a better hockey player than Gunnarsson, before last season which was Franson's worst defensive year he played his best defensive year. When I evaluate players I don't look at only their most recent work but over a greater span of time.
Dion and Franson have played together on the PP and perhaps they would like them to play together outside of that so they develop better chemistry and we don't have any more back to back short handed goals on the same PP.
Perhaps they would like to boost Franson's value for a midseason trade.

Again, I don't honestly think Franson is going to play on the top pairing, but if you want to focus on it, then fine, I'd like to hear your counter argument.

I hope so. The PK in the shortened season was really good, which was bizarre for a Leafs fan after the Ron Wilson teams. Then last year it was down at the bottom again. If these changes even get the PK back to the middle of the pack that would could be the difference in making the playoffs.

Or we can let Reimer play a few games, and if he played like he did at the start of last year, we can move him for much more (or keep him)
why does everyone wanna move the guy when he is at an all time low in value?
This is not like the Luongo situation with a backup with a huge contract and ego.
Reimer is making 2.3, which is reasonable considering Bernier also makes less than 3
