Lester is a pending UFA who has already stated he would consider a return to Boston even if traded. Even with all that on the scale they say Sachez wouldn't be enough. (frank). That.

Bridge deal can haunt you. Ask Montreal.
- RogerRoeper

Long term deals for unproven talent haunts you more. The market allows for players to make what they deserve, but when they're overpaid, then you start getting problems. I'd rather pay a player fair market value than overpay in a long term deal, have the distraction of their contract, then buy them out, leaving millions of dollars of empty cap space.

That being said, the signing is prety good, 4 mill is good for a player with his skills, and if he gets better than it'll be a steal.

I actually think he is worth the value now, considering what defensemen are getting paid these days.
- Aetherial

Meh. We're sitting hairs at this point. I see nothing wrong with this deal.
On a related note, how the (frank) did STL get JBo to sign for under $6 million??

No I meant market value in that he's not worth the AAV right now but he will be in a year or two and will prob be a bargain for the last 1-2 years.
- DoubleDown

Market value? Kulikov just got 4.33. Guys like Carlson, and Hamonic make similar money and term. Josi signed for 4 long term before his
Career year, now that looks genius.

I'm pretty excited for this season, I think we could have one of the better bottom 6 forward groups in the entire league. We could use one more top 4 stay at home guy to play with Phaneuf, but overall this is looks like a good group.

I don't understand all the people female doging about Kamarov's contract, 2.9 is about what a 3rd line player should make.

- MapleLeafsFTW

Go home. Mommy will help you.

Franson get him off first pairing. Phanuef plays right anyways. And its komorov.

I didn't know Jake had only 10 less points even strength than PK in over a minute less per game of ice-time. That's pretty good for Jake

He was like our Russian version of Blake without having to overpay him.

Probably wants to win a cup as a Canadian born player playing in the U.S. Not as rare as one may think.

Bolland was a tough loss, but he only really played 20 games for us so we can't really say we are much worst without him. Especially considering the contract he wanted.

Raymond was a pleasant surprise,

McClement wasn't very good at all.

Kulemin was serviceable as usual but not worth 4 million.

Of the 4 I would say Bolland was the only guy we didn't replace with a better or at least equivalent player and he didn't play enough for it to matter anyway. Aside from that we now have depth which should be very helpful, especially in the last 20 games and hopefully the playoffs.

- MapleLeafsFTW

I agree. I loved Bolland, but at that price and his age it seems like buying high. It might have been a good fold for the Leafs on Bolland.

I always liked McClement and Kulemin but McClement lost it last year and Kulemin just hasn't brought enough to start upping his cap hit just because of seniority and UFA.

Clearly the PK wasn't working either, it's been so bad switching it up at random couldn't be any worse at this point.

The idea that bridge deals haunt you is wrong and anyone who understands math and basic economics understands that long term, a bridge deal is smart because you end up paying a lesser AAV for a players prime years (late 20s early 30s) if you sign the bridge.

It's going to be tough for the coaches to make the line combos this season. What do people think of one of the new additions taking over Clarkson 2nd line spot. I agree with most that he gets paid like a 2nd liner and they need to try to put him there to start but what if that line gets nothing going like last year. Who do you guys think takes it? I think Santorelli.

Meh still could have gotten way more on the open market. Him and AP signed for $13 million is crazy when you think about guys like Subban and Phaneuf.

Yeah, but they don't wanna trade him. Him and Utley they wanna keep. Latos/Bailey/Lester are the big pitchers that are/could be available if you wanna hand your farm over.

Thats assuming players maintain their level if play and the cap goes way up. The habs probably saved 2 million per the last 2 years by lowballing, but it will cost them 3.5-4 over the next 4 years.
