Fair point. I think gardiner could asked for one in the last year of the contract.

I still hate sportsnet.

The only good thing for next season is the 26 Leafs game telecasts televised by TSN as it relates to the their sports personalities - rest of the season will be

It is pretty funny how Gardiner was such a focus around here, and there was discussion of how RC doesn't like him and so on. Then the fired assistant coaches said oh yeah, RC said repeatedly we can't trade Gardiner, then the Leafs give him this contract. Clearly the Leafs see something with the kid. The like him more than Franson that's for sure.

Interesting signing, they really have a lot of faith in him, Franson can barely get a year. Hopefully it works out, I dont really see anything that's proven he deserves more than a bridge deal at this point but he's very talented for sure.
- 13sundin13

For good reason there is little faith in Franson.

Wow just took a look at the Gardiner deal,
it is fantastic, this is exactly the kind of deal I was talking about a few blogs ago, it's a little high for the first year or so, but if he develops like he should the contract is a steal for years 3, 4 and 5. ie) JVR's contract.

He's now getting paid a lil more than Giordano - should be a breakout year for Gardiner - 40pts would be a good target

I believe you are allowed being 10% over the cap during the off season. It's called the Philadelphia clause.

Once they demote or move 3 or 4 of the 17 forwards - Leafs will be back under

I'm pretty excited for this season, I think we could have one of the better bottom 6 forward groups in the entire league. We could use one more top 4 stay at home guy to play with Phaneuf, but overall this is looks like a good group.

I don't understand all the people female doging about Kamarov's contract, 2.9 is about what a 3rd line player should make.

- MapleLeafsFTW

I liked some of the players that we let go, but at the absolute very least it was apparent you couldn't play the fourth line last year, and that burned the team out. There's enough guys here fighting for a contract that at least a few of these guys has to be more useful than Orr and McClaren. Hopefully there's a ripple effect across the whole group.

Komorov clearly the Leafs outbid other teams for with their deal, they spent to get him. They know him well already, let's hope they're right. Apparently players were all texting Nonis saying they loved the move.

One thing with Komorov I don't question that he is legit, he is that madman that loves to run around and (frank) with people. Like really likes it. We need a few of those guys at least.

Guys like Komorov are rare. It's hard to find an effective annoying pest. Plus, they saw first hand how much they missed him last season. There's no unknowns about him.
He didn't come cheap because, as you said, there were other bidders.

LOL. Only the Leafs could lock up a young core player for 20 million over 5 years and it's viewed as such a risky, terrible move.

4 million is NOTHING in 2014' for a guy who's talented, young and healthy, and will log a lot of minutes.

If that deal goes through I'd say it's the most successful offseason I've ever seen and remember. I'm only 23

I don't agree - hoping I'm wrong

I think he's terrible defensively and that's his position

I will be cheering like a mofo and hope he improves with some more stable D around him
