so how did the Rangers make it to the finals, their stunning offense?

By distracting Giroux with a cop's buttocks during Games 1-4.

Timely offense

How did the devils make the finals 2 years ago going through the supposed king with "fatso" playing for us

How did the devils make 5 finals and win 3 with their offensive superpowers but I guess defense doesn't win championships

I don't know how this turned into a Brodeur discussion, from what I understand he is no longer a goalie in the Metro

The Devils of 11/12 were a forechecking dynamo with a very solid defense and a team-wide commitment to a well-run system.

The 13/14 Rangers made it with an even better defense and an elite goalie supplemented by a good (not great) offense.

Yes, but the team was powered by team-wide defense and goaltending. Even with those two, they couldn't go toe-to-toe with some of the other teams.

well regardless, talking about the 2012 Devils is not really the most relevant thing at the present time, despite the Devils fans desperate attempts to prove Lundqvist is overrated

Just stating that the rangers have a top defense as well as an elite goalie so lundqvist isn't the only reason why they made it to the finals

Used brodeur in 2012 because he was a shell of his former self and the devils still made it to the finals because of team play not because of one person

Every team that gets to the finals is due to team not due to one player

Who said he was overrated

Because he has a stupid nickname that no athlete should get without winning the biggest prize in their sport, in this instance the Stanley Cup

Don't confuse the 2 because every devils fan I know constantly has him top 3 when ranking goalies

And where did I say that

Yeah I didn't say he was overrated

I guess we should all bow down to his greatness and kiss his rings

You are the only one here that keeps saying that. Just saying.

Either way, as Lou likes to say, the past is irrelevant. We both goth torched in the finals by a team that was better than we were. Arguing who was the better, of the less better teams who lost recently in the finals is pretty weak argument jimbro.

Both Nabakov and Poulin had 2 of the lowest shot attempt distance averages in the league. Better D would increase that SV% most.
- Feds91Stammer

No, you clearly didn't watch Isles games. Isles gave up around 17th most shots? Which isn't bad considering we had Amac, and Viz injured.

The goalies couldn't stop a beach ball last year. They were bad

Halak didn't even play for the islanders at all lol. When you play for St. Louis the majority of the year it makes life a lot easier.
- aoh718

Halak posted his best % with the caps, who arguably have a pooptier team defense than we did.

No way man, the Devils only made it to the finals in 2012 because Lemaire used the neutral zone trap in the 90's and the Rangers only made it last year because Kreider assaulted Price. I know so because I read it on hockey buzz.

Conor Chatham intrigues me. I read he's considered the physically strongest player in the entire draft class.

Then I realized that's been said about Roman Polak in the NHL and my expectations have come down to reality.

Just for postarities sake, Henrik means king in Swedish. The nickname was given to him long before he played at the professional level.
Now, for anyone to connect a nickname to a players accomplishments is understandable so I don't begrudge you that, however, if we extend that logic out just a little, the Sacramento Kings should change their nickname cause they haven't earned it.
(notice I left out the LA Kings cause they just destroy my logic rant)

I see what you did there, and I'm glad you're expanding you culture, and great use of google, but... It's not a direct translation like that.
Similar to the name 'James' meaning king in the English language. Hence why Lebron James is called king often. It doesn't come from winning, tho that certainly cements the nickname, but from the fact his name is James.

Why reduce the sample size? The more games you take out, the more you risk you have of having flawed stats based on hot/cold streaks instead of actual ability.
- Nucker101

The rangers were horrible the first 2 months of the season while Lundqvist was battling a slight nagging injury and the team was having a difficult time adjusting to man from zone.

And if you take out all the losses the Devils had this season they would be undefeated.

He played so you can't just discount it because he wasn't very good
