Gretzky is the greatest player of all time. He's a full hall of fame career ahead of the next guys for points. This is the stats age baby.
Where is Jaromir Jagr? 5 time Art Ross winner should count for something. Never seen a player better down low than Jagr.
No disrespect to the old timers like Richard, but their repeated selection to these lists is more romantic that anything. I know you have to compare their achievement relative to the era they played, same goes for Gretzky, but I would say there have been other players since them that would push them down a bit, if not off the list. |

A few interesting stats:
Gordie Howe at 51 in his last NHL season played 80 games and scored 15-26-41 +9
Orr was +124 in '70-'71
Gretzky was a minus player in 6 of his last 8 seasons with NYR, STL & LAK |

And here I was, about to dial up an order for my Maxim Shalunov Hawks jersey when I heard he's taking a two year 'hiatus' to go back to Russia...
So much for that.
Will have to go with my second choice, Kevin Hayes. - prd797

I don't care about what happened when I wasn't alive, I'm about to be 25 and have watched quite the quality of product in my life and I'm not worried about the future. I've watched 4 cups hoisted and have never missed watching my team in the playoffs.
This city has turned into a huge hockey town finally, for a month and a half a year. Have your 2 million bandwagon parade and people who are "die-hard" fans that don't know the rules of the game. I watch more regular season hawks games than a ton of people I know who call themselves hawks fans, along with almost every wings game. It's sad, and I know some really awesome hawks fans and I love watching them play but I can't stand people talking about hockey here and they don't know anything. |

Yes. They do. Now. What else do they also have? It is why it is used to illustrate a family.
Have you ever seen a willow tree? So what the flying (frank) are you talking about?
Also. Where the (frank) did I say a tree had more than one trunk? |

A trunk with no branches in my world is a single dude with no kids. A wreath is a tree branch bent in circle...much better metaphor for incestuous behavior IMO. So (frank) you, ok? Asshat. |

I could care less whatever he provides the team this year. Too many veterans on this team. Each season some veteran should worry that he might get traded. A strong farm system supplies players and keeps everyone hungry. Question: how do you feel when you dish out a lot of money and see a lethargic performance for half or even an entire game. Young up and coming players have something to prove. Veterans just want to coast too often and deposit another season's big paycheck.
The truth hurts. Do not respond if you cannot handle the truth. |

I would say Doughty was team Canada's best player. And Kopitar being neck and neck with Toews but not making the top 10, when Toews is apparently #1 is pretty dumb.
Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that Keith doesn't draw the toughest match ups in Chicago, they use a different pairing for that. |

The actual top 5 on the all time list should be:
1. Gretzky - Come on, the guy has more assists than any other player has total points.
2. Orr - Hell of a dman and could put up points.
3. Messier - 2nd most points overall, probably the best captain ever and was tough as nails. Played a complete game and put up more points than Howe in 9 less seasons.
4. Howe - Hell, he's Gordie Freakin Howe
5. Lemieux - An amazing player, could dominate the ice and if it wasn't for his injuries and health, he numbers would've been much higher. - Horseguts
Didn't he end his career Captaining 9 straight teams missing the playoffs, including several stacked Ranger teams? |

I think I read that he only had that hat trick once in his career.
EDIT to change that to twice in his career. - StLBravesFan
Brendan Shanahan is the all-time leader in Gordie Howe hat tricks with something like 30, IIRC. |

How dare you! I have been watching hockey since I saw Bolland put that puck thingy in the net thingy against Boston. When they skated around with that big trophy cup it was really cool. Ever since then, I've been a fan of hockey, and I looked up the rule about offsides yesterday, so don't call me band wagon!
Edit: and maybe saying you don't care about things that happenned before you were born a whopping 25 years ago makes you a (frank)ing dolt. Just sayin'. |

I am not a fan of Crosby at all. He is a better player than Toews though.
And the whole Orr Gretzky debate is laughable. Its Orr. All day long.
Gratzky was the best point producer the game will ever see. Orr was the best hockey player. Orr could do it all. Skate. Hit. And kick the ever-loving poop out of you if you were stupid enough to drop the gloves with him.
And Hull always gets undervalued as one of the best ever. Guy was mauled every game. And he played most of his career with Chico (frank)ing Maki as his center. - Elbows15
Agree on Orr. Best ever. One of the biggest guys I ever saw on skates was Pat Quinn. Ask him if Bobby Orr could go.
Also agree on Hull. I think Savard worth a mention having made a slug like Secord a 50 goal scorer. Gretz never made Sementhead a scorer. |
