Will anyone on the current list ever make the all time list? - Yeah Boyes
No, maybe doughty. |
|
|
|
Weber is an awesome defender, no doubt
but he had a big cloud for years being paired with another norris candidate in Ryan Suter
Since he has been on his own, he's been very good, but not as good as he was when suter was there IMO
Also, I dont think I've seen anyone get away with interference more in the league than Shea Weber. Just sayin - FourFeathers773
keith isn't exactly playing with pylon either. just saying
i'm sure if you moved seabrook away from keith, keith's game would also take a step back....however small that step may be.
also important to note that weber's best year was playing with josi, not suter |

Datsyuk & Kane need to be up there for me. No Sedin, and Giroux is still great but after last year I feel Kane has easily surpassed him. |

Lemieux is undeniably top 3. - Yeah Boyes
Top 3 forwards yes, but Gretzky, Orr and Howe trump Lemieux. And I think Richard rounds out the Top 5.
As for the list of current players, Sedin should be replaced with Kopitar for sure, and how Stamkos was ranked 7th baffles me as he has passed Ovechkin if you ask me. I wouldn't have Keith in my Top 10 either, but then again I'd place Karlsson 10th so there's my homerism to the conversation. He is the most offensively gifted D in the game hands down, and has improved his defensive game drastically compared to 2-3 years ago.

Really?
Datsyuk yes, but Hossa's in no way top 10 player. - l3ig_l2ecl
I respect your opinion and could see how I might wind up with the same one, maybe, but I would pick Marian Hossa to be on my 10 man roster from the currently active NHL players. Every time. |

Change Karlsson for Weber and the list is pretty good and hard to argue.

Doughty maybe for a Top 10 D list, and it's a big maybe, but not all time overall. I don't think he's good enough to surpass Orr, Lidstrom, Bourque, Harvey, Coffey or Shore. That leaves 4 spots to contend with, with guys like Potvin, Stevens, Robinson, Clancy, Niedermayer, Pronger, Chelios & Leetch.

Weber had his best year this year. I understand no one watches the Preds...but Weber clearly did not miss Suter this year at all. |

I wouldnt have Ovi or Sedin in my top ten.. Also I know this is not popular but I would have Mario as the best ever.... |

Just for poops and giggles---4 lines with consideration to natural position, role and balance. Not the best players but best lines? 3rd line for defense, 4th for agitation.

Gainey-Yzerman-Lehtenin (8 Selkes total)

Good list and hard to argue the all timers except....
Mike Bossy should be on there somewhere in my opinion.
He retired at age 30 due to injury but still scored 573 goals. The best pure goal scorer I ever saw and likely ever will see.
And I didn't even like the Islanders |

My son and I have the same top all time line. But I'd put Mess at Center and Lemiex on the wing. Also, I'd put Trotts in there instead of Clarke. |

John Jaeckel: Top 10 Players, Now And All-Time - John Jaeckel
These types of lists are a ton of fun. Well done JJ. As a lifelong Nucks fan I give you props for recognizing Henrik. I don't think he's top ten anymore, but he's top 20 even with his offense sliding a bit. He should be back near a ppg next year. Despite what people think (maybe its the red hair, goofy look or the fact he has a twin?) Henrik is tough as nails, a top three passer in the game, solid on faceoffs, and one of the most unique and interesting players of all time. Still, not ahead of Kopitar, etc. anymore.
It's difficult for me, being 30, to comment on all time lists. I definitely would want to find a way to put Lidstrom, and possibly Jagr or Hasek in any top ten list. For me, Hasek was the best goalie I've ever seen, and for a 5-6 year period he was easily the most dominant player in the NHL. We haven't seen someone that dominant since Lemioux. If Lidstrom isn't top ten, then he better be #11.
Other than Henrik, I would definitely take Keith out of any top ten list. I'd put Weber, Doughty, or Chara ahead of him. In fact, it's difficult to say right now, for a single game, that you'd want someone other than Chara out of any list, even with his game slipping. Bergeron is an interesting option. So much respect for the way he plays the game, and even with all the talk he's been getting, he's still probably underated.
Fun subject. |

Lol. Trots is likely my 13th. Robinson my 7th D. I love Trottier, btw. |

Also, I might add that while my stats aren't in the same league as any of these guys, obviously, I would make a great 4th line center in any era. |

1. Lidstrom needs to be on the top 10 of all time.
2. I feel like Jagr should also be on the top 10 of all time.
3.Sedin shouldn't be on the current top 10. |

It's hard for a lot of people on here to even make a list. A lot of the best all time we never saw play. Me, when Bossy retired, I was 3.....
Anyway, we get what our parents told us or what the record books say.
I hear about how great Beliveau was, but then I also see that out of his 18 seasons, 14 of them were during the original 6 era. Out of his 11 cups, he had an 1/6 chance of winning the cup.
Not saying he wasn't one of the best of his era though.

It might just be me, but i honestly dont see the big deal about Claude Giroux. I've just never been very impressed with him.
