Again, outside of a 10-game stretch, what over the last 4 months of the season showed you that Downie was anything but an anchor holding back that 3rd line? He was a net negative. If he was really injured to the extent that it affected his play that badly, it would have been in the best interest of both himself and the team to sit out and get healthy. He was nothing but completely atrocious last season.

I actually believe the team missed Downie down he stretch. He had his good and bad games but I feel nobody played better with Read and Couturer then Steve Downie. Keep in mind the poor guy took a number of head shots this season, this should be considered. There really shouldn't be much of a knock against his play before these injuries.

I'm just speechless when people seem to think Downie was anything but terrible over the last 4 months of last season. If this was anyone other than Steve Downie, who people seem to have a crush on, he would be ripped beyond belief on here.

Based on what I'm reading, you're not speechless at all.

With Hayes, Mueller, Winnik, and Booth gone, I don't think there's anyone left on the market that I would want them to pursue. We are the same team minus Hartnell and Gill. But we also added Umberger, Shultz, and Bellemare. They will help give us depth, discipline, speed, and defensive soundness. Overall I would say we lost a tiny bit of scoring depth but added to other very important aspects of the team.

Wait Hayes? Thought that was Jimmy Hayes of FLD not his younger brother, did I miss something?

Point to one game from January on where he was effective in a positive manner. Please name one.

Actually, I can see 2. 2 games over a 4-month stretch where he was effective.

I agree he was fine and made good plays for 10 games, but he is a fragile egg at this point. A team near the cap ceiling even with LTIR like the Flyers could not afford the risk of a contract spot and another million up in smoke. They gave up something to get him and had an up close and personal look at his medical records before letting him walk.

I was rooting for Downie.

He was bad and was given ample opportunities by Berube.

It didn't work out. Moving on was the absolute right thing to do.

Ah, I probably mixed up my Hayes. The story I read refered to him has "former Hawks prospect Hayes" so I drew a conclusion from there. In that case, I would hope we're still pursuing Kevin Hayes, with maybe Leino as a training camp invite in case Hayes doesn't happen. I do believe we need to add one more forward to round out the roster.

I was too. I didn't like the trade, but since he was a Flyer, I wanted him to succeed. But he didn't. For whatever reasons, he flat-out didn't. The fact that people still think he's worth a spot on this team after last year is amazing to me.

This would suggest that I would have to go look up all the games Downie played for us in January. I can't remember who we played in January, nor am I going to do so because you feel I need to prove something to you of all people.

The player isn't a dominate offensive force, I never said he was. However, nobody on this roster had the same chemistry with Read and Couturier that Downie did. He did all the little thing right on that line.

If you have a biased against the player, that's really not my problem.

If Leino would accept a tryout, that would be ideal.

I provided a list for you to look at. I actually wanted him to succeed because I like the Flyers to be successful. And he was horrible. Just horrible. I don't know how what he can bring that people like.

And by the way, over an 8-game stretch, and guy with 1 prior game of NHL experience was just as successful with Couturier and Read. Given Downie was successful over a 10-game stretch before becoming a putrid player, I'd rather give Akeson a shot since he isn't prone to becoming crippled.

You keep saying Downie was horrible but in the same breath keep saying he was useful during a stretch of 10 games. He was also traded here a month after the season started. He was also injured at times too. Late in the season, yes he there were a stretch of games where he didn't play well but at least I consider the 2 plus concussions he took.

Hey everyone, how do you feel about bringing back David Laliberte? He had a few good games when we first called him up a few years back. Let's give him a million dollars to play on our checking line.

Maybe we can get Zherdev for our top line wing, too. He scored some goals when we had him, and we need goal scoring.

Shame we let go of Andrei Meszaros, he played some good defense for us over a few stretches before he became a walking MASH unit.

Yes. He played 10 games where he was good. That doesn't mean he was good for the rest of the season. How is that so hard for you to comprehend?
