Maybe they mixed up his and Downie's reports. Now there's a guy who proved to be wholly unremarkable in all departments.

same number of goals, same inability to take a punch (stole this from you PSG), but Downie was clearly the better playmaker

Huge get for the Penguins

He's running about neutral... Depending on where those PP and PK are in a game is huge. If he draws a penalty in close game, and gives one on a Flyers lopsided win.
- leon neon

Unfortunately, he's a lot more likely to take a penalty in a close game than draw one. Like this one.

I wonder how any player would have fared in Buffalo after coming from a better team.

I'm still too scared to really bask in the glow of that deal... by some stroke of luck, Tye could still end up on Jumbo Joe's wing and pull a Cheechooian 40-goals out of his butt.

I thought Downie was pretty good when he didn't have that look of utter confusion on his face. I'm glad they let him walk though.

I think a lot of his problems stemmed from his hearing problem. He seems to think that's been rectified. He's a nice buy low candidate for the Pens.

Remember who you're comparing him to. That's like saying he's a better goal scorer than Jody Shelley.

My god that 2010 prospect list is a joke. You can't even compare it to present day. Eventhough the Flyers overall pipeline would probably rank in the 20s, it looks like atleast the top six guys have a shot at reaching the NHL at some point. In my lifetime this organization has never had 4 potential NHL defenders in their system. And I actually think Alt could make it as a steady bottom pairing guy. Gostisbehere, Morin, Hagg, and Sanheim... can't wait to see how they all develop. And Stolarz is easily their most impressive goalie prospect since Boucher was coming up.

It's gonna take a few years but I'm pumped for the future of the Flyers.

That would be something. Though to be fair, Cheechoo always was a scorer, he averaged over 30 goals for Belleville and had over 30 in the AHL for a season, it just took an elite playmaker like Thornton to get it out of him in the NHL. McGinn never really got going in goal scoring until he was an overager in juniors. But hey anything's possible!

Exactly.

He'll never be a premier two-way player, but I feel he may be an effective secondary scorer who is not a complete liability away from the puck. I have yet to see much evidence to the contrary aside from what I've read in scouting reports prior to last season.

- jmatchett383

The biggest positive I took from watching him play... He always seemed to find the puck. That is something that, generally speaking, isnt taught.

Stats from this past season are much more relevant than 3 years ago.

Also, a +/- of 0.8 goals per PP/PK is a HUGE difference...although I'm not sure what you're trying to prove, other than that his penalties taken led to more goals against that his penalties for led to goals for.

- jmatchett383

It's very relevant too a young player trying to get better. Zac is only 24. My point was that he is getting better. You can't get that from just last years stats. (Source?, where did you find the penalties drawn stats?)

My point with PP vs PK... The Flyers have a pretty good PK (84.4% kill) and PP (19.7%). They are better than most other teams. In a game with lots of penalties and equal per team... They should win (statistically). Look at the worst team; Florida has a PK (76.0% kill) and PP (10.0%). The Flyers should let Zac go in a game with them, with the goal he draws a penalty. If he takes one, we should be able to recover. He has to play a controlled game, which at 24 - he is still learning.
