Wothout looking at the numbers, I'm pretty sure Ovechkin scored just about half his goals on the power play too.

Role player!

It's the same tunnel vision with you. Why was he a poor preformer this season? Simply because he plays one position and effective in one area of the ice? He's been this player his entire career. He's capable of bouncing back and he was hurt for most of the season.

I think the situation is much more complicated then fans choose to believe. Either he plays well and ups his value for a trade, if this is possible because his age, length of the deal and cap hit or things get worse because he knows the team doesn't want him anymore, he plays poorly again, fans turns on him and he sees limited time. If Lecavalier plays bad, this summer will be nothing compared to the next four years and this is on the Flyers for allowing this to get out. It's on the Flyers for bringing him here to begin with.

He's never been in this situation before.

- SuperSchennBros

Who cares if he's been in this situation before?

He's getting paid a ton of cash, by 2 NHL teams. Sure he's probably unhappy, but it is what it is. There's things about everyone's job they hate & he has to learn to deal with it. Not many teams seemed that interested in his services, so he might be stuck here.

At that point he's got to make the best of it. If he's playing poorly or being a distraction that's partly on him. It's called maturity and professionalism. You make the best of a bad situation.

In 9 career NHL games, he has 5 points. 7 of those games came against a very strong defensive team.
- PhillySportsGuy

Yep, he played well for the most part in those 9 games. He'll have to keep that up.

Lecavalier has been nothing but professional as a Flyer in my opinion.

I don't know that he has a good NHL game. I think he has NHL hands and NHL skill level. The question is can he compete in other ways needed to use that skill level to produce enough at the NHL level to stay there. Because there isn't much else to his game. Unless he remakes himself as a player. He deserves a legitimate chance to show that he can play in the NHL. Time will tell.

Think about how much worse it will be in 2-3 years when these guys actually start contributing

Top center
Top Winger
Shut down C
Goalie
Franchise D/legit #1 pair D

They are missing a very big key piece.

Also the best teams go 12-13 forwards deep... guys they can use in a playoff series
flyers still a bit short on depth IMO.

I do like the direction they are going. I hope one of Morin/Ghost/Hagg/Sanheim realizes their potential, but still not sure any of them become the top dog they need on the D. We will see.

- Marc D

don't worry. rosemont can step in as that 13th guy when called upon in those important playoff games.

I see him as a Andrew Shaw/Brendan Gallagher kind of guy... point totals won't knock your socks off, but he'll really help keep the puck in your team's hands and that alone has immense value.

I agree. I think Gallagher may be a decent skater though. Could be wrong. Habs fans really do love him though.

He would have to be a strong checker, strong on the forecheck, and a solid defender in order to do that. It remains to be seen if he has that element to his game over the long haul.

And to be honest.. that bad moment was him going a little hard, and probably a direct result of trying to do too much.

I thought it was just really some bad luck, and didn't really see it as an undisciplined or careless play.

I know the sample size was small, but in those 9 games he has played, I dont think he looked bad with out the puck. Actually I was a bit surprised (pleasantly) with how he played away from the puck.

Kings used Justin Williams on the 3rd-line for much of the PO's... his lack of strength, speed and average defensive game didn't hurt them there... at all.

There's a whole world in between guys who score, and guys who check. Akeson doesn't have to do either, or... he can just be himself and still be valuable.

It would have been insignificant if they killed it off. He came off as the culprit as if allowing 2 goals on a 4 minute PK is acceptable in the playoffs.

Bill compared 2010-11 to current prospects... I looked back at the rosters during that time, and the current line up (vs previous counter-part, ie. the 'replacements'). I'm leaning towards the 2010-11 team, but 2013-14 team has better future (esp. as Bill noted the prospects are much better).;

He was trying to throw the hit, but didnt have his body ready for when (Haglund?) the Ranger player turned. Lost his balance a bit and his stick came up. Tough play. Sucks that they scored on it, because he really only made that one mistake, and it ended up being costly.
