I'm late to the party, but I have to put in my two cents on this because there's nothing else hockey wise being talked about.

I find this discussion to be pretty ridiculous because they're all based on opinion. It's like asking who's the top 5 guitarists of all time. How does that get answered? My top 5 may vary from 10 other people's top 5.

I'm not really sure how you don't have Sidney Crosby as a generational player. I think one of the criteria of being a generational player is being the "face of the league". The kid is just tops at all facets of the game.....head and shoulders better. To me Sidney Crosby is unequivocally the best player in the NHL and has been since he entered the league. The only leg you have to stand on is that he's young so there's plenty of hockey to play. But, in the event his career ends early you cannot say he's now an Eric Lindross. Crosby is so far superior to Lindross that its not even up for debate.

Quite frankly, the game is so different now that you can't really compare players of different generations. One could make an argument that the game now is better than it ever was....and Crosby is the best in the league when the league is at its best.

When they nicknamed Crosby "the next one" what do you think that was in reference to? Cause I'm gonna guess the next generational player.

I never questioned Crosby ability. I was just stating in my opinion, as great as he is, I just can't put him up on the list with players like Mario and Gretzky just yet. And only brought up Lindros name because of their similarities with their production and injuries at the same point in their respected careers. And one hit to many could potentially put Sid in the same category again. A career cut way to short by concussions.

Lindros' game of size speed and skill is one of the reason the game has changed the past 10-15 or so years. You're right it is a much different game today. Maybe the greatest we've ever seen.

Here's a great article you might find interesting

http://network.yardbarker...yb_original_head_10978325

Difference of opinions is what make these type of debates interesting and fun, expectably during the off-season. In the end... we're all just big time hockey fans talking Hockey.

I never said Crosby didnt deserve the "generational" tag.. Just that Lindros deserves it just as much.
You don't recall him winning the cup, well i recall his career being cut very short. Gretzky was non-existent in the 93 finals.. it happens.

In the clutch and grab 90's.. Lindros was unstoppable. He was heads and shoulders better then everyone. He would OWN the game as it is being played right now.

If i had to choose between the two... Eric the great

Gretzky led all scorers in the 1993 Cup finals with 7 points in 5 games.

Montreal won 3 games of the series in overtime, very close series despite it being done in 5

He didn't put the team on his shoulders and will them to win like we have been told generational players have to do, right? No big time goals, in fact i don't remember him scoring at all in that series... like I said.. it happens.. doesn't make him any less of a player.

Im almost amazed you missed the point.

He ain't got time to die....

I figured posting him would draw a bit of fire!

I will say, there are two sides to every story, and anyone with an opinion on that circumstance should read this:

FTR: i just think Ventura is nuts

I read American Sniper.. GREAT book. It's nice to have one of these Seal books that was truly not sugar coated. He wrote it himself b/c he did not want anyone telling his story. He told about Shooting a woman with a bomb holding a child as a shield as HIS marines were marching up the street. Guy was incredible.. read the book. Ventura He alluded to as a "well known Seal" was in a bar talking sht about current seals and what they were doing over there was a joke, travesty, etc. He knocked him out cold in the bar. ... read the book trust me.

I don't wish his death. I wish he gets publicly punched square in his face and then fades into obscurity never to be heard from again.

Ventura was a Vietnam war hero.. so I respect him. I don't like him and think he is a Jackarse.. but he has certainly earned my respect for his service.

I could debate that.. Lindros was a freak of nature, all that skill in that body.

As for "the next one" they had the same title for Lindros when he was 15 years old. When they were changing the rules for him because he was that much better then everyone else he faced.

I agree.. Lindros was the best hockey player I have ever seen. I lived in Philly during his prime. I worked at a firm that had season tix and went whenever noone used them. I have never seen anyone who posessed that much speed, skill, AND SIZE. He would make a pass that would stun me, Score on an incredible shot and then Destroy someone with a hit... and just for the heck of it beat up their toughest player. That Guy was INcredible.

Lindros' career was cut short, yes, but he NEVER won the Stanley cup.
Generational players carry their team to victory. Lindros did not get to that level.

When Lindros took the flyers to the finals, Nicky lidstrom and I believe Larry Murphy shut them down. I can look it up but I don't even think Lindoros scored a goal.

Did you really just reference #99 getting shut down in the 93 playoffs???

Thanks fellas!

I've been offline all day so sorry for the delayed response. Really crazy how life can humble you sometimes....but I've never been happier.

She needs a surgery on Monday...so, although I'm confident this little girl can already take on the world...say a prayer, wish some luck, do whatever little thing you can to help pull her through.

truly hoping for the best for your little girl!!
