To say MacArthur isnt gritty is simply ridiculous. He had 10 less hits than Getzlaf...

He isnt a power forward, big, or a tough SOB that players fear, but he was gritty and wasnt scared to battle along the boards...

while i am not a big fan of using hits as a gauge for .. well.. anything.. i do agree Mac is a gritty forward

he'd work the boards.. dig pucks out of the corners.. wasnt afraid of going to the net or scrums.

gritty does not mean big power forward. there are lots of gritty little guys

not sure why he's not a little believable...it's not like he's spewing Reimer and Franson for Kane etc etc.

i dont agree with the bolded at all

but i do agree on franson, that guy only has high hit totals because he gives the puck away and then grazes the guy.. the ACC stats staff are very generous with their hit counts

I always figured that it was a stopping mechanism for Franson. Given how awful his skating is it's either skate into the other team, or into the boards to stop...

Franson was the only D that used and sort of force on the Leafs...other than Phaneuf when he would pinch and run over 1 of our own

Just my opinion / Franson had a bad year...I would hope this year would be better if he's still a Leaf. I thought I heard he had a hip injury last year...did any word ever come out about this?

We'll agree to disagree.

But when a player is 2nd in hits, its safe to say, that most of them just aren't love taps.

Ive seen with my own 2 eyes, that he throws his body and doesnt just push a guy.

Take away from the fact that he turns the puck over a lot. He hits, he hits often, and his hits are usually along the boards and take the player out of the play. (Granted, Franson is already out of the play)

And along the boards he would hit the guy. Not just glance by him or rub off on him..

He's not that good. He's a 5'11 Dman who is a good skater. He's basically a less offensive Liles who hits more.

He really doesnt add anything to the Leafs

Franson led in hits this year..... don't tell me how many hits mac had and tell me he's gritty and tough. He wasn't close to tough and gritty.


If you are fighting (the right guys) and winning like they were during the lockout the others feel bigger. last year the big guys weren;t fighting and/or winning os the team felt smaller and played smaller. I didn't say was the only thing, but it plays a part.
