The deal brings in a stay at home physical D-man, frees up roughly $5 million is cap relief, which would give Nonis a lot of options moving forward with teams that are opening the season over the cap limit. Also, they've been talking to a couple Goalies (brodeur, Thomas) at $1 million 1 year deals....take it for what it is....but a 2nd rounder coming from the jets in a very good draft year, and freeing up $4 million after signing a back-up....not too shabby - Kinggilmour
I actually believe u on this. Who would make this up? |

This is the guy that called the Winnik signing four days ago and nailed the amount as well. Although he might just be getting us back cause quite a few people were douche's. |

Not me man.....and if I was making something up with the Jets, wouldnt I mention bigger names? the deal makes the Leafs dangerous moving forward....money and less headaches when it comes to dealing with Franson again next off season....only to get nothing for him. Clitsome is actaully pretty steady, makes $2 million and dont forget the 2nd or 3rd rounder....this is how you build winners....high draft picks! |

I can definitely imagine they want JR and CF gone though. CF has been a headache it seems, and it's obvious they just aren't keen on JR. But, yeah I dunno about if they could get more or not? 2nd picks are rare in Toronto. - walshyleafsfan
I can imagine they want value back for both players. Nobody wants to ship out a player at any/all costs unless they're a distraction or they have an albatross of a contract. Reimer's contract is exceptional value and Franson's league average; neither are distractions or locker room cancers that need to be moved out at all costs.
I could see a swap of Franson and Clitsome and a 2nd/3rd conditional, but that's a downgrade in my opinion: the guy's never played a full season and would only take away a spot from Granberg or Percy. |

read the book "the extra 2%" and see what Dubas will be doing with this team in the next few years. Bringing in Babcock next season...this team could finally be going in the right direction. Go to the draft, let the "core" play and help by signing these 1 year deals that force FA to earn a second contract. |

I don't. Everything Nonis and Reimer have said on the radio over the last week indicates that Reimer will be given every opportunity to take back the starting position; this is why Reimer chose to sign again and for two years. He thought "we were done", but was told otherwise.
They could still move him, but Nonis said he didn't feel comfortable with any offers that presented themselves. Yes, the two-year deal improves the desirability of the player, but I don't see a lot of options out there and certainly don't see moving a serviceable 1B with a great contract along with a point-producing big-body d-man for Clitsome and a conditional pick. |

Do you think the leaf organization is getting tired of franson's act? He's been combative during contract negotiations ever since being traded to the leafs. |

Gravy, The leafs dont trust Reimer anymore, they dont want him there and he doesnt want to be there. They HAD to sign him in order to complete a deal with the Jets...the leafs are very high on Peluso as well and have been trying to work him into a deal coming back. |
