Not over my head at all. They have done just enough to say they have improved on paper. If only 1/2 the new signings play well or better than expected than its a success. Injuries or average performance could easily lead to crash and burn. Including bernier.
- marklaprise

Bernier goes down and the team will certainly struggle......but that can said of a lot of teams chances if they lose their starter.

I haven't made any predictions... Tsn experts on the reporters have already written them off.... 2nd worst in the league for sure.
- burn

They have the Leafs 2nd worse?

Who's below them? Edm or Buf?

Playoffs would be a stretch, but bottom 2?
that seems a bit drastic.....

- Barx

But TSN is all leaf Homers, how is this possible?

Agree! it was sickening watching our players get thrown off the puck with one hand and watching the opposing team coast through the neutral zone and enter our end with ease then cycle the puck for two minutes, wear us down and score a goal on their sixth shot of the posession. That pretty much sums up last season, not gonna happen too often this year
- coolehmon41

Honestly, I don't ask for much from this crew....they aren't winning a cup anytime soon.....but I want the compete level to go way the hell up this season.
Too many passengers last season and at least there should be enough depth to push everyone a bit.

I really like all these one year deals they are handing out. It gives guys like Ashton leivo broll Biggs and gauthier one more year to help develop. Also it'll be easy to bury them in the minors if one of the kids takes their job in training camp. A trade I could see happening is franson + gardiner + Reimer for e Kane/Bogo. Thoughts?

100% agreed. I don't think most of us ask for too much. Just a bit of effort.

I honestly don't think we want/need Kane. Distraction, produces less than Kadri and may sulk if he doesn't get top PP time.

Even though they own the team I believe that tsn/bell is much harder on the leafs than the other owners - sportsnet/rogers

TSN and CBC aren't overly keen on the Leafs, although we are told otherwise by Ott, Van and Edm fans.

why the (frank) did they sign booth. I predict he will not only have no impact, but will in fact have a negative impact by taking spots away from better players.
- BestRapperAlive

Does this happen in the NHL? You would think teams play their best players... Unless you are going for 1st overall in the draft.

I don't get why people are upset that we are getting good bottom six players on good deals. Would they prefer we gave them multi year deals?
- Yeti1181

There is no downside.

If they have a sh1tty year, no biggie. They are only signed for a year and the Leafs have the depth that they can ride the season out on the bench if they are that bad.

If they play a role, they are a bargain. They are a steal if they become a key contributor in the top 9.

Plus, maybe the Leafs grab a draft pick at the deadline for one of the spare parts. All the players the Leafs signed should be tradeable to some playoff team looking for depth a a position or in a role.

These guys are also playing for their career in some cases.

The depth moves have been good.

Plus we should have a fourth line that can actually play nhl hockey which would be nice.

absolutely....I 'd be lying if I wasn't at least looking forward to seeing how hard this team can play next season.
They have added at least 5 players who play a hard physical game.

That's beautiful.

TSN dedicated 18 paragraphs to a maple leaf non-story.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=457785

If a leaf player farts it a guaranteed 4 paragraphs on TSN.
