Let's trade Lupul for Mike Richards and Kadri+Franson for Kane
- jbold

Keep E. Kane away from the Leafs, thanks.

That's correct. Moen + Subban and you can have JVR.

It's a little bit of window dressing though. They've swapped out the 3rd and 4th lines and two depth defencemen. I like the changes and I think it's a move in the right direction but they really haven't altered the core that much - the guys that will play the big minutes ..the most important minutes ...are all still there.
- The Law

Very true.
I think the leafs are hoping with a slightly improved bottom six to play more minutes, they can depend on and play the top two lines a little less.
I believe they are hoping and praying Dion plays better...cause they know they're F'd if he doesnt. He'll be hard to move.

Dubas added, Booth and Winnik signed to good deals right away, Leafs are killing it all of a sudden....

Are you sure, I need to see a Yost graph to believe you.

So many players being signed.
Winnik has some interested advanced stats. Career, his CF% is around 50, but he had a terrible playoffs last year.
The stat I like the most is the GF% where he was 60% in the lockout season, 52% last season, and 60% in the playoffs. Not bad. Nice replacement for bottom 6 numbers.

Confused where everyone is going to play though.

If we assume the top six (at least by salary) is:
JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson

Then what's our bottom 6?
Komarov - Santorelli - Booth
Frattin - Holland - Kontiola

- ILoveLamp

I could see Winnik and Komarov on an energy/checking line together. Maybe Kontiola as the centre.

Holland with Booth and Santorelli? Frattin and Bodie/Ashton stealing shifts when they can.

This is Lupul's list of teams he'd be willing to be traded to:

New York
Los Angeles
Paris*
Milan*
London*

*if/when awarded NHL Franchise

Then you keep Lupul, he is signed and contributes just as much even if he is injured. Giving up a lot for zero improvement in the lineup is a stupid move.
- LeafMan

And that's the jib about most of these signings and additions. Lets be realistic, Lupul is going to get hurt. Having guys like Santorelli, or even Frattin, that can step in and fill a top six role for short spurts is a must. It looks to me like the Leafs have a top line in stone, and a second line centre, with the other pieces shifting around.

I can't recall any current Leafs with fancy designs shaved into their hair. Would this not be the 'culture change' Shanny was promising?

Much more flexibility in the short term.

Interesting tidbit, Leafs are currently at league maximum of 50 contracts signed for 2014-15 between A and N.

Gardiner (and even Nylander) cannot be signed without a trade now (not 100% sure of this, may be able to have 50+ in the offseason).

Unfortunately there's more than two teams in the NHL. 'Peg isn't taking that bag of tricks - there will have to be atleast one big piece coming back.
- The Law

True, but when a player is disgruntled and the media gets wind of it, they value of that player drops.

Kesler, a former Selke winner, got Bonino, Sbisa, a 1st, and the teams swapped 3rd round picks.

Spezza, a PPG centre (and a Dman Ludwig Karlsson) got Alex Chiasson, Alex Guptil, Nicholas Paul, and a 2nd rd pick
So pretty much nothing.

Robidas is a 20 minute d-man, so he's one exception to the above.
- mykokes

Yea, probably 3/4 on the depth chart. Lets hope he moves down a few by year end -cuz that'll mean Rielly and Gardiner are playing well.

I totally believe this statement. However, my belief hinders on what David considers the "near future" to be?

- Iggysbff

I announced the Winnik signing last Thursday....the exact deal and amount....any doubters now???? I have 3 close friends that are player agents, I get the deals before they go down....maybe I should run my own sight??

and maybe the doubters will stop doubting
