On paper, faster, tougher to play against with the speed and more offense. Now we have to see when they lace them up. - LeafMan
I see a lot of smarter hockey players too with the guys coming in. Less about talent, which I think we already had in guys like Kessel, Kadri, JVR, Rielly, Gardiner....more in terms of workmanship and solid hockey play that has been added.

Reimer is a toss in.
It would be Kadri + going back to the peg for Kane.
Or a one for one.
Either way....Kane doesnt make sense for the leafs...unless Winnipeg takes a bad contract or garbage back.....I dont see them doing that.
Unless the Leafs believe Holland can replace Kadri. - Fakepartofme
We could give them some nice youngsters and a starter.
Holland/Leivo/Reimer + Ashton/pick/Franson.
I don't think that's far off. Especially for someone who they know wants nothing to do with that organization anymore. |

If the peg were taking Lupul back....it would have to be Lupul plus Holland, a high pick and high end prospect.

Bout the first time I've ever agreed with you. We don't need Kane. He's, as people love to throw around, a cancer. The Leafs don't need that. Centres are more valuable than wingers as us Leafs fans know more than anyone. I cannot see us going after Kane. Kadri produces more than Kane as is. Why make the trade unless there is more from the Win side? |

So many players being signed.
Winnik has some interested advanced stats. Career, his CF% is around 50, but he had a terrible playoffs last year.
The stat I like the most is the GF% where he was 60% in the lockout season, 52% last season, and 60% in the playoffs. Not bad. Nice replacement for bottom 6 numbers.
Confused where everyone is going to play though.
If we assume the top six (at least by salary) is:
JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Then what's our bottom 6?
Komarov - Santorelli - Booth
Frattin - Holland - Kontiola

Then you keep Lupul, he is signed and contributes just as much even if he is injured. Giving up a lot for zero improvement in the lineup is a stupid move. |

there's a rule of thumb that we, as fans, should follow when we "propose" trades. if our team is getting the best player in the deal, the proposal is terrible. - DoubleDown
Not here. Here, anything is possible if you put a "+" at the end of the list of players your team is giving up. |

Unfortunately there's more than two teams in the NHL. 'Peg isn't taking that bag of tricks - there will have to be atleast one big piece coming back. |

Their GM is not dumb.
I could see one of the following:
Kadri+ pick/prospect
Holland + Leivo + Reimer + high pick and maybe Ashton
Holland+ Franson + Reimer + pick
Even then...I think they would only do the Kadri deal.
But I would hope the leafs wouldnt...unless the leafs believe Holland can replace Kadri.

It's a little bit of window dressing though. They've swapped out the 3rd and 4th lines and two depth defencemen. I like the changes and I think it's a move in the right direction but they really haven't altered the core that much - the guys that will play the big minutes ..the most important minutes ...are all still there. |

I think you'll start to see more Leaf draft picks as this season and next season progresses.
And in some instances there are exceptions, Gardiner wasn't a Leaf draft pick, but all of his development or pro career has been as the property of the Leafs. |

No sh!t.
Which is why I said earlier, the trade wont happen.
Kane doesnt fill a hole if we are making a new one.
THe jets arent taking garbage for Kane....it would create a hole somewhere.
Plus I like Lupul....good cap hit...places great when healthy. |
