What you don't understand though is that many of the guys older guys have already regressed to the point that we're starting to not rely on them so much. Jagr, Zidlicky and Elias are the only one's who really have enough of an impact on the team to matter. Elias's style will allow him to remain productive, Zidlicky can be replaced by the 3 young guys, and Jagr, well, he's really the wildcard here. If he regresses we're probably f'd.

I'm not concerned about Schneider's workload. This is a normal schedule and he'll have plenty of rest if he needs it.

Teams with top 5 possession numbers, top 5 in defense, top ranked penalty killing, top 10 power play (although I expect that to regress to the bottom 1/2 of the league next year) don't usually miss the playoffs. Our goaltending sucked the last two years, now it doesn't. I'm pretty confident we'll make the playoffs.

The Devils will make the playoffs this year. Only missed by 5 points last year, 5 points. The only thing they didn't do last year was score enough (frank)ing goals, and that wont be a problem with our new shootout coach. He's got wrenches.

Anyone think Lou makes a push for Ryan ? Whether be a trade or if he hits free agency. I know a lot of you devils fans in jersey don't like the guy do to comments he made but he is also a bit older now and perhaps more mature I mean I kind of feel like Lou knows everyone is going to be excited about having a first round pick in a deep draft so he will likely look to move it on us lmao like it is going to kill us down the road with picking 29th then trading our first the next year then drafting 30th that's three straight years with no pick or on of the very last ones in the first factor in the botching of tedenby and josefson and its ugly it kind of looks like we might be dipping into free agency for the next few years to keep replacing old guys since we don't have the guys within except for on defence of course that's and goaltending is where we are set

It's hard to say what the roster will look like come the trade deadline, which is the earliest I'd imagine this would happen. I can't see us making that sort of move unless a major contributor goes down and (obviously) we're still in the playoff conversation.

I suppose it's possible we go after him if he hits free agency. At that point Jagr, Ryder, Brunner, and Havlat will all be free agents. We'll need someone to replace them on the right side. It'll also depend on how the young guys look and how much room needs to be made for them. If they show enough promise, it might be better to avoid the high end of the free agency market and go after guys who won't demand long and pricey contracts. If not, we'll need someone to play right wing on the top-6.

Only speaking for myself, but I'm hesitant about him because other GM's (Burke specifically) are on the record saying he didn't make team USA basically for lack of hustle. Burke is also on the record saying he should've taken Jack Johnson in that spot in the draft.

I think they're better served hanging on to the assets that it would require to make such a deal (i.e. first round pick and a good prospect)

I'd be more inclined to focus on Krejci and Fisher in free agency. Seem to fit the Devils mold a little more.

I Think on based off what I read there is a greater chance this year they dont make it. Cory has no one to push him and they have injured players as wingers and the youth on D can not yet be counted on. I say they take a even larger step back this year to make a bigger one next year.

Nobody to push him? Guy finally has the opportunity to be the clear cut number one I really dont think he needs anyone to push him.

Devils don't have it this year IMHO, though you really are the Zombie franchise. Why won't you just die!

I just think Lou wouldn't mind moving a first for a good player in their prime if they get him at the deadline it will be for cheaper IMO because he can sign with anyone you take all yhw risk but you get that time to work out a deal that is hopefully a little better then what a team might throw at him f/a but that's not to say he would sign hut you get the point I just think Lou always looks for a proven talent or veteran. If you will over a player who might never see the NHL and you got to think once Elias and jagr go who replaces them I doubt matteau or Boucher will be ready for top line duties by then which means dipping into free agency again for more stop gaps he needs to figure out how to get a top line forward that is 25-29 to properly hold down a top line spot so no one gets rushed

It's definitely a problem that they're going to need address sooner rather than later, I don't disagree with that.

I just want one of them to be a legitimate 2nd line player. That's where my HOPES are, realistic expectations are for 3rd line, for all 3 of them. It takes time. Gionta took time. Elias took time. A lot of players take time.
