Sutter/Dumoulin/3rd RP for Perron - Barnaby36
I like despres alot, and if we werent able to add some of the depth on the backend that we did, id prob be all over a deal for him.
But even tho the guys we got have only solidified us marginally, I think mact has kinda decided on rolling the dice on them giving us a reasonable backend, while waiting for our own d prospects (klefbom, nurse etc) |

I think there is too much disparity in value on Pittsburgh's roster
High End: Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Kunitz
Mid: Dupuis, Sutter, Martin
What we would want for Yak is likely in between those two spectrums. I would include Maata and Pouliot in high value but we wouldn't move Yak for those guys as it adds more of what we have - left shot young/prospect dmen.
Just don't see a deal. Now if James Neal was still a penguin, there would be a solid deal that could be formulated for either Yak, Perron, or heck even Eberle. - ystoil
The tiers of talent is a good point. But even moreso there are very few roster players we are in a position to move. Sutter and Martin (and scuderi, adams) are the only ones, IMO. Plus we have lots of D prospects and I guess a pick is always possible. Sutter is medium value. Martin trade clause means he will not go to EDM. So it's just a matter of not aligning very well. A year or two ago, you guys would have probably been much more interested in a forward for D-man swap.
Letang is very unlikely to move at this point and I don't want to trade him. A Letang for Eberle swap may have made sense. But, again, as both teams currently stand....don't see it making sense. |

Exactly this. Just can't see Despres passing over Nikitin (2 years remaining), Ference (3 years remaining), or Marincin.
Unless we can get a buyer for one of those guys, Despres wouldn't get a spot here. Nikitin is way overpriced to trade, Ference is a bit overpriced and in his mid thirties, and Marincin is showing promise. |

Is Letang's heart issue last year a concern going forward or was it treated and not expected to happen again? |

Would you have any interest in dealing Yak's jock strap and a pile of Perron's crap for Sutter?
Edit- Large pile |

I won't pretend to be a doctor but they say it was a freak accident and would be very unlikely to ever happen again. But it will always be somewhat a concern just knowing it happened once. We would be selling low on him due to his health concerns, so he falls into that Yakupov category of moving someone at lowest value. |

It's the same chances to have a problem as he had before , we just know about the issue now. Very slight chances but still a concern. I love him and think he'll have a great upcoming year. It would have to be a haul for me to even consider trading him. |

Even last year we probably woulda been all over acquiring despres.
And still could be. Just not for a guy like perron that has such a unique skillset in relation to the rest of our group.
One year sutter signed for a middling pick? |

Sutter/Dumoulin/3rd RP for Perron - Barnaby36
a 3rd isn't worth sh*t all, Sutter is an average 3C, and EDM has enough LHD/LHD prospects. All Dumoulin does is block off Klefbom/Nurse/Gernat/Simpson/etc.
and if Sutter wants as much money as speculated why would EDM trade Perron at 3.8M for him and scraps? PIT unequivocally wins this trade scenario |

This conversation is starting to get circular. I think we're all in basic agreement that the only way a Sutter for winger centric deal gets done between Pitt and EDM is if one of the two GMs has a complete mental laps. |

Yup, Minn is a more logical trading partner with Martin. Only way Sutter goes to EDM is for cap relief and picks. Which I would take over Yak any day of the week. |

And the Oilers moved Lowe into a position with less influence on trades...damn. |

I don't mind trading Sutter. I would prefer to get a more physical winger in return. I am not sure who that might be but hey, I think once Spaling's arbitration gets settled we shall find out. Till then, we can speculate on any of Edmonton's forwards, apparently. |

I think a 3 way deal is needed.
Edm: Sutter + Brock Nelson
Pittsburgh: Perron + NYI 2nd rounder
NYI: Despres + Pitts 1st rounder
Just throwing that out there (didn't fully analyze this), not sure if there is full value for all involved (maybe NYI doesn't like it due to Nelson's high perceived value). Anyway, just a thought.
Essentially:
Edm trades Perron for Sutter + Nelson
Pitts trades Sutter + Despres + late 1st (likely) for Perron + 2nd rounder
NYI trades Nelson + 2nd rounder for Despres + 1st. |

Its farfetched that Kap will make it out of training camp to begin with. If we acquire a top 6 winger, I guarantee Kap is given the year to develop rather than getting thrown into the wolf's mouth from the get go. Plus I'd rather have Goc on the third than Spaling. Better top six would be this:
Kunitz-Crosby-Bennett
Hornqvist-Malkin-Yakupov
or
Hornqvist-Crosby-Perron
Kunitz-Malkin-Bennett
Megna will have to play his off wing and be the third line left winger in this scenario, but that's a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make.
