A deal prior to the start of training camp would give the Leafs only five experienced defenseman(Dion Phaneuf, Roman Polak, Stephane Robidas, Morgan Rielly and RFA Jake Gardiner) which means having to sign another free agent(UFA Michael Del Zotto perhaps) or relying on rookies Petter Granberg, Stuart Percy or Matt Finn to play on the bottom pairing.

Not true, another dman could come back, another asset they could flip for a dman, or get a dman back in a JR deal...Id be okay with having a Marlie do the job btw

it seems your assuming we get nothing in a trade for Franson, or atleast not a dman

Reimer for Nic Petan

Reimer for Adam Lowry

Reimer for Connor Helleybuyuk

Any of these realistic? Would you rather go for a roster player?
I'm not even going to go into any package deals Don't feel like getting yelled at.

I can see a Petan as he's undersized and risky making it in a top-six role.

Depends on how much the Peg want Reimer.

Pros: when he's good, he's awesome! He's from the Winnipeg area and would love to play for the Jets. Reimer is a fantastic person, the perfect feel good story for the locals...

Cons: he hasn't really established himself as a starter. Caveat is he faced 1,000,000 shots, but yet he still had a fantastic sav %. Tim Thomas hadn't established himself either until his early 30's. Goalies are a funny lot...

Petan was a 2nd rounder....Leafs getting a 2nd or 3rd rounder was always the prediction.....so this could work.

I could see it working. I like Petan. He's a player who could make it in the NHL and be a first line player. It's just the size issue. No one knows how he will react as an undersized player.

Oh hell no!

I'm sure however that we could have offered more than the scraps that you got back for James Neal

Hörnqvist would be a first line winger in Toronto that's the funny part

Spaling would be good enough to crack the 3rd/4th line.

Done

If he truly blows, we can buy him out. Clarkson's contract is so horrifically poop, we're almost better not buying him out....

I'd take JvR, Kessel and Lupul over Hornqvist.

I am actually sad about the Neal deal though as he'd have been great alongside Lupes and Kadri for us....

But you do realize You'd have to give up a top 6 to get Neal right? Neal had to go IMO. Character was a major problem with him.

6 years left, $32.25m. ($5.25 cap hit)

Most of it is signing bonuses, so the buyout penalty is around $4.7m/yr for the first few years...
