Professional sports is a performanced based business, he got what he deserved. I was on his side the first few years and actually liked his depth additions years two and three, but it was all downhill from there.

Main downfall was the handling of goalies, and lack of a legit 2nd line.

Forwards that are ready now, Kassian Mathieas Bonino

Forwards that are near ready Horvat Shink Virtanen McCann Gaunce Jensen Vey

That is 7 new forwards trying to make a jump into the NHL and 3 here already plus the Sedins and Vrbata

10 players trying to earn 6 spots.

He out-smarted himself with the overage strategy, but his first rounders didn't seem like bad picks during those drafts at all.

For Jensen it depends on if he's on a hot or cold streak during the pre-season/camp, there's not really a middle ground in his game.

He was arrogant, no doubt. Once the team slipped, the vultures were out non stop. The Vultures were even out when the team was good I found though, always haters from the predictable regions, were most media personalities reside from and can set a negative tone to the hockey world, making our team and fans look poorly when sometimes theres a glass half full view.

You have to admit we were an easy team to hate. Diving shinning hair pulling biting ,led by a pompous ass.

It's the later rounds that killed his record.

Handling of players period was a big issue. He was as chompsey would say a Bipolar when it came to dealing with players. The highs and lows with his player dealings was a major downfall.

Don't forget your top line getting rabbit punched game in and game out and them not defending themselves nor the rest of the team not sticking up for them nor your coach sending a message. Then in the end getting a coach that was supposed to change the culture of the team only to make us even more hated.

A few of them won't make it and will be sent to AHL/Junior, plus injuries always happen. Rarely do teams have everyone healthy for opening day. Dem groin strains.
- Nucker101

I want to see competition for spots in camp, but if they aren't ready to make the jump, then they have to go back to junior and save a year of their elc.

I think Benning said, hope I'm not misquoting, if the level of performance is the same between rookie and veteran then you go with the rookie. I am not totally against this, but still like the idea of saving a year of a rookies contract if we are not going to make a real push for the playoffs, if there is no rush... I'm a fence sitter and assume we will see a balanced approach.

Anyone following that FRANCHISE FACEOFF, Duchene is just ahead of Kane... can't go wrong with either, I voted Duchene.

I think my definition of almost ready must be different because I would only have Vey, Jenson and possibly Horvat on that list. Shink with his injury needs more time to prove he is ready and Gaunce needs to prove he can play against men in the AHL. Virtanen and McCann will need another couple of seasons. The only other guys I can see competing for a spot this year are Jeffrey, Grenier, Zalewski and Archibald.

who do we trade and who do we trade with to get the other pick(s)?

I am about to say, ____.... is staying because of ntc, but it doesn't sound like Garrison didn't push the issue, so who knows?

Apparently he wasnt pleased at first but then quickly realized if they didnt want him here, he was going to go to a team that wanted him

that's what I heard, but then you get guys like Bieksa that don't want to go... maybe the right person hasn't asked him yet? Not that I necessarily want to single out Bieksa, it all depends on the return.

Just using him as an example of a ntc, just like I said tho, it all depends on the return. Some elements are easier to replace, we don't have much of what Bieksa brings in the lineup, especially on defense with Tanev, Hamhuis and Edler lacking the same sort of edge.

It sounds like you didnt see what was coming so it felt like "haters were hating". We were doing good early on mostly Burke and Nonis' work and some fans and media could see the future was a disaster.

That about sums it up. Gillis only early on added the depth this team needed. After that most of his intentions flopped by misjudging talent or horrific timing of decisions.

There's a big difference around here in when Gillis got fired compared to Nonis. People were screaming on here about Nonis being fired( I was hunted and even blamed). Two years later Miccah was still defending Nonis,,,, Mark Gage called for Gillis to be fired at the end of his first season(miccah too) for failing just like Nonis. It wasnt until the year we went to the final that everyone was on the same wagon.

Hard to fins someone here who thinks Gillis should still have his job. Anyone see a person say that yet? Even Chompsey after Gillis was fired dropped the good fight and agreed he (frank)ed poop up bad. No sympathy for Gillis anywhere. Hes a female genitalia.
