obviously you didn't watch any Leafs games last year. To call us a defensive style team would be a joke. We were an offensive team that would trade chances. A goalie hell.
- JVR_42_PK81

i never said the leafs were a defensive minded team, i said they had a defensive minded coach.

there is a difference believe it or not... the leafs just arent a very good team, including their goaltending.

Your probably a bandwagon pens fan. That's gotta be it because you know nothing about hockey.

nailed it, we have a difference of opinions and thus i dont know hockey.

ill correct myself... the leafs are a great team with a terrible coach with great goaltending who cant make the playoffs because of a NHL conspiracy to prevent teams from Canada from winning the Cup because Gary Bettman hates Canada.

better?

I was with Pat Morris yesterday....not made official yet but the Leafs have singed Daniel Winnik to a 1 year $1.35 million dollar deal....not a bad 3rd 4th line guy to have that can kill penalties.....the Jets offered $1.5 million, he took less to sign with the leafs.

He stood on his head for quite a few games. Came up big in the third to preserve a lead more times than not, which is a nice feeling considering past seasons required a 3+ goal lead going into the third for a fan to feel mildly calm.

All in all, the 13-14 collapse would have started earlier if it wasn't for JB.

I went to Toronto about 10 years ago when ML led team canada to the world cup. awesome place. Its what makes the fact that toronto fans have had what they deserve by not winning a cup so sad. You fans suck. really really badly. a disgrace to the nhl and to the sport in general. hence the curse. Damn it... your franchise has shat the bed so bad... and you insist on selling out the joint! stay away for a game or two... show the owners they cant keep f'in up without it hurting their pockets. the whole sheep attitude is bad for the whole sport.

Hmm never said that. Just because a coach preaches defense dosnt mean your going to get it. Your acting like the Leafs defense was so much better for Bernier and Reimer than the Pens defense was for MAF. You say the Leafs goaltending sucks. Well it dosnt. Its actually quite good and our strongest position. Our Offense is good. Our defense is god awful.

Trooolll. Yes you know what to do. don't show up for games so management panics and sells all the prospects for washed up players. Perfect idea.

Don't kid yourself. Your best "position" is Phil Kessel. After that there is a severe drop off.

The first line was one of the best in hockey last year. The second line was crap but is capable of doing better. The depth issue was fixed in the offseason.

The Penguins were the same thing. Bylsma's system was long passes from the defense to the breaking forwards. Who cares if the other team was preventing that. Keep trying it.

The difference is your trading chances between Crosby and Malkin vs Kessel and Kadri which one will kill you first?

Not since Therrian has Fleury had a coach who liked the idea of playing defense.

I keep noticing that people fail to post his numbers from the year they lost to the Wings.

Ryan on your fancy bar graph showing that the Penguins won despite Fleury in 09. Where would his numbers sit when they actually tried to prevent chances against him. Somwhere near Thomas in 2011 and Roy in 2001 right?

He can do it with help. Just like all goalies.

I don't disagree with that statement. Huge fan of The Phil and JVR. Even liked JVR when he was a flyer. Both American heroes. Even bigger fan of the two of them together. If you guys could get a legit 1st line play making center to skate with them, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the best line in the NHL.

That being said, that was the only line on your team that could come close to doing anything last season, which is no bueno, and as Pens fans, trust us, we know exactly how no bueno top heaviness can be. We'll see how well you actually fixed your depth issues when the season starts up.

Any line with Tyler Bozak on it will never have the ability to be best anything.

well thats the problem... having a coach with a defensive mindset and a really bad defense is why you guys struggle and will continue to struggle.

The penguins struggle because they have a good enough defense but a coach who refused to use them correctly and who preached nothing but offense.

if you want to say the penguins would be better off with a guy like Reimer at 2.3 than MAF at 5... that's a fair point... a point i dont agree with, but a point worth debating IMO.

but this idea that Reimer and Bernier are both better goalies and better options, cap hits aside, than MAF is a pretty far-fetched assumption to make IMO.

And what exactly have the Canucks been able to roll out on their first line? To not acknowledge the leaf's top line as one of the best is illogical, no matter if you're a dumbass Canucks fan or not.

he sees this from one angle and that's the problem.

he loves to bring up how bad MAF is and refuses to accept the fact that the team had a lot to do with that... he loves to bring up how Reimer would be a better option but says his playoff shortcoming and lack of playoff experience is due to Toronto's team... you cant have it both ways. either the team has something to do with it or has nothing to do with it.

that's funny. Bernier over MAF any day of the week. What has MAF proved? That his team can carry him to a cup? Bernier has proved that he can carry a team. Reimer and fleury are even.
- JVR_42_PK81

Your posts border on psychotic.
The goalie with the Cup has proven nothing. The goalie who has one year experience as a starter, got injured and missed the playoffs proved he could carry a team. You make no sense.

Yet somehow an older Tomas Vokoun miraculously found a way to play above league average in front of the same team.

Yes the goalie with the cup. The one that was on suck a stacked penguins team. The same penguins team that could of had torkoski and would of still won the cup.

The one that was on suck. Indeed.

And I highly doubt your final assessment. Exhibit A:

That was a very close series and Fleury literally closed it out. Anything can happen in Game 7.

MAF was pulled because the team decided not to show up and MAF was the easy scapegoat. Had MAF been left in and the team woke up, I would have expected the same result as Vokoun got.
