Its pretty obvious by the mediocre moves made by new Leaf management, that they clearly want to have a one year tank to acquire one of Eichel or McDavid.

And unbeknownst to most here, Bernier is NOT anywhere on track to start the season, and Leaf management know that to finished below Buffalo or Ottawa, they need to dress possibly the biggest choke in Toronto Maple Leafs history, James Reimer.

This is the main reason why he was resigned, for a well disguised TANK. Shanahan and Lieweke are quite brilliant and know that this franchise lacks a real franchise player, and apparently are leaning quite heavily in the direction of Eichel.

This team has a great chance of finishing in the bottom two or three this year in the NHL, and there is NO need to even consider that this is a playoff team. They have no future if they continue making the same mediocre moves, year after year.

I think it was more buying himself time and inner competition with all the 1 year contracts.

There's no way McDavid or the other guy will be in Toronto. There's no reason for the league financially to do that.

How have the last few best KHLer fared? Not well. Komarov meh. Polak a downgrade. Robidas hobbled. Santorelli is a good signing. Booth lol.

We'll see.

The guys who cover the Habs on a daily basis say that Price is clearly the leader of the team on and off the ice. So I suppose the giving the C a player other than him would be more a formality.
