My first Flyers memory isn't really a memory at all. I don't remember who they were playing. I don't remember what year it was. All I remember is during the first period of some game, one of the Flyers scored, and I jumped off of the top of the couch (since I was climbing on it) and jumped around, rattling the nearby Christmas tree. Dad tackled me and was yelling HE SCORESSSS FOR A CASE OF TASTYCAKES and we were rolling around laughing and cheering.

Regarding hockey, I owe everything to my dad. He taught me everything and got me into the game at a young age. I remember as a little kid (like...4 years old) playing in the garage of the old house. We didn't have much in the garage, so we'd play hockey in there with the door closed. The nets were cardboard boxes...dad was on his knees and I was standing up using a mini stick. We'd play for what seemed like hours. We'd play against each other or on the same team...he'd always announce. I didn't know then, but I know now what "THEY POKE AT IT!" and "Score for a case of tastycake!!" really mean to Flyerdom. He'd always announce like Hart, with those being the 2 phrases I (and most people, I guess) remember most. Getting older, we'd play on the driveway with actual sticks and a net, and sometimes there'd even be a "fike" as I would say. I'd always beat dad. I was the toughest around...I even threw my stick down, ruffled the back of my jersey, and fixed my imaginary elbow pads....

What might be my fondest hockey memory/memories was when I was in what I'd say 3rd grade. I was old enough to stay awake for most, if not all, of the games, and if I missed anything I'd just watch it on Sportsrise the next morning getting ready for school. Dad worked the night shift, so he'd leave about mid way through the 1st period and not get home until after I'd leave for school the next morning. I would leave notes/pictures on computer paper depicting what happened during each game he missed. I remember drawing one where a Flyer (Gagne?) scored on Brodeur in OT, writing in big letters at the top DYLT (Dad you'll love this...meaning dad you'll love what happened during the flyers game last night). I drew Marty in front of the net with the puck past him and Gagne with his hands up in the air...there was even a fan or 2 (it was Devils home game I guess ) and the jumbotron. Another drawing I drew was 2 people talking. One of them was Bob Clarke as GM, talking to the Yotes' GM with the talk bubbles: "Boucher for Esche??" "Sure!" because I didn't like the trade at the time. I'd tape each one with scotch tape to the outside of the garage door into the house, so it was the first thing Dad would see.

My first "real", specific game memory? I can think of 2. One was the brawl against the Senators. This one, I think out of my 2, is chronologically first. Dad, on his off days, would tape late games for me on VHS or tape whatever I missed if I had to go to sleep. We'd watch them together when we got the chance, but he made time for that baby.

The other one I can remember vividly is game 6 against the Lightning. Our friends from Tampa were up here in PA visiting, and it was a bad time, up until the last 10 minutes!

I don't remember the details of my first Flyers game other than that it was against the Bruins and Tim Kerr and Mark Howe were in the lineup. One of my Dad's patients used to give us these amazing seats about five rows back. My Dad explained the game to me and cheered as much as anyone. He was nice enough to wait until I was old enough to tell me he was actually a Rangers fan (he's from Brooklyn). I hated sports as a kid... but I latched onto hockey from the moment I saw it the first time. To this day I don't follow or give a crap about any sport other than hockey.

I also remember this lady who used to sit in the 3rd row behind the Flyers starting goal... when Keith Acton was on the team, she used to scream "Woody get the damn puck!" at the top of her lungs. Super classy.

I swear I remember people smoking in their seats, if not the concourse.

I miss the Spectrum dearly.

I think I was meant to be a Flyers fan. The problem was growing up no one in my family was die hard into hockey like I was so I was forced at a young age to figure it out on my own. The years later my family/friends got more into hockey and I saw I was cheering for the enemy but it was to late at that point. Once you fall in love you fall in love lol

Another early memory is a game against Detroit in either 72-73 or 73-74. It was an utter blow out, Flyers 12, Wings 2 and what I always remember is all the hats hitting the ice as both Rick Macleish and Simon Nolet scored hat tricks.

I hear you. A buddy of mine is an Isles fan because he hated the neighborhood kids and their "Flyers this" and "Flyers that" when he was growing up, and here in S Jersey we got WPIX and he could watch the NYI games instead.

I went to my first Flyer game in 1968 against Pitts and we had never heard of hockey and didnt know what was going on but we liked it. In those days the Broad St subway ended at Snyder ave and there were shuttle buses that took us to the Spectrum, The Spectrum was so big , beautiful and massive and one year old and I think a ticket was like 4.50
