This is the defenseman I'm really excited about coming up.

Masin has ridiculous potential. I'm surprised he didn't go earlier... or DeAngelo for that matter.

Meh, all the better for us.

Masin is the defenseman I'm most excited about, but Vasilevski is still the prospect I am uber excited for!!!!

Arty, please tell me you're not advocating us going after MAF if Bishop walks.

You have a better idea? If Vasya comes up and looks good, I'd go with him (if Bishop walks), but I'll get drawn and quartered for that statement.

Vasi Is too young jimmy Howard played 4 years in the ahl! Vasi needs at least two so you need to resign bishop.

A great problem to have! Do you think other teams wish theyd have the problems we have now? Bishop is for real folks. And with some D in front of him he might be even better. No one mentions that. They say he'll come back down to Earth, well I think the question is how healthy will he be and if he isnt how will that affect him. But otherwise he'll be fine.

Howard didn't have two years in the KHL. Vasya could do two years in AHL and a year as a back-up (if necessary), but after that let the kid out.

Let me say first that I like Bishop, but he's had 1 great season and that doesnt make a career.

i agree i see two years as a ahl starter then 1 as a nhl back up. I see bishop here at least 3 more years. Not really a big deal bishop gets a 5 year contract even with a no move clause we can ask him to move. bishop will want to be a starter somewhere else. This may turn into a quick/ bernier deal one will go bishop or vasi.

If Bishop walks, MAF isn't the right fit. He will be looking for a #1 tender position and fast forwarding a year either Vasi or Guds will be that much closer to NHL ready status. MAF won't come cheap unless he sucks it up for the Pens this year...which of course would only strengthen any argument against signing him. Also, where is the upside with a MAF? His struggles on a consistently good Pens team don't offer much to strengthen an argument to sign him

My guess is Bishop gets a new deal before FA but after the season. Bishop knows where his market price "could be" provided he answers the questions he still has hanging not to mention the big elephant question of playoff performance. The playoffs is where the true #1's separate themselves from the Niemi's, and if/when Bishop proves he can handle the playoff spotlight is when truly serious negotiations can happen

How much of those numbers come from MAF being a true #1 tender vs being an average to a tick above average on a good team?

IMO if MAF was a true #1, the Pens would have multiple cups at this point
