1 guy argues he isn't a goal scorer, he's an assist guy. The next guy says he is a goal scorer. - LeafsBlueline
He can do both pretty well. He hit 10 goals and had 31 points last year and wasn't even on the teams first powerplay unit. Chill brogina, chill. |

Can someone please explain to me the love for Gardiner? Some leaf fans talk about him like hes the next drew daughty. Don't get me wrong, I dont think he's horrible but no one can argue, he's an undersized d-man, who doesn't throw hits, and has an avg slap shot...what's all the excitement about? His point totals aren't impressive...I just dont get it - LeafsBlueline

It's all reimers fault
@SkinnyPPPhish: Bernier sv% post Oly (11gms): .904
Reimer sv% post Oly (12 gms): .909
RT @DamoSpin "Reimer's inability to fill for injured Bernier... - burn
Bernier was playing with a hernia after the Olympics, so that comparison is quite flawed.
As for it being "all reimers fault", both directly, and indirectly, it was. He played awful in the stretch, and the team in front of him had zero confidence in him, so they weren't scoring.
I think one (the other being they like him as a person, which is understandable) of the main reasons people (like Mirtle) are defending Reimer is they feel that acknowledging Reimer's poor play in the stretch somehow negates their argument that the Leafs were statistically pre destined to fade in the second half due to their poor possession numbers.
While they are correct about those poor numbers, and the team's need to address them, they would lend more credibility to their statistical assertions if they were willing to take into account other factors that influence results, like horrific goaltending for example.

Bernier didn't have a hernia in all pre Olympic Games.
Saying that the team had no confidence in reimer and that is why the scoring dried up is beyond flawed. The reason the scoring dried up is because rc started playing kessel line against the other teams top lines. Blaming the goalie for the team not scoring is beyond ridiculous. Reimer wasn't nearly as bad as some make it out to be. He was facing nothing but breakaways and odd man rushes. The team in front of him was playing like crap.

Yet when they played in front of a healthy Bernier, they were fine.

Certainly doesn't help.
Overachieving with a Vezina year helps too (yes I realize the Leafs early season success was in large part due to Bernier playing like a Vezina contender) |

Yeah, that 941 save % was crazy. They'll never get that again. Not sure why more people didn't mention that this time last year when predicting Ottawa as a cup contender. |
