Great article....always good to have the core part of it out of context.

McCann left an awkward first impression at the draft when he told James Duthie "it is what it is" when asked how it felt to be a Vancouver Canuck—sounding more like Todd Bertuzzi than like Kesler.

The ACTUAL quote
“I never thought I would be a Vancouver Canuck, but it is what it is and I am very excited and very honored to be part of the organization.”

If in anyway that made an awkward first impression or even close to a bad attitude then someone needs to stop writing and change careers. That is why this world is so stupid, someone out there will always tag this kid as "having a bad attitude" for life because they read this garbage and has no intelligence to find out the truth.

That's 2 thumbs up for identifying a major issue with media in general, I watched the draft and the interview and he didn't sound disappointed to be in Vancouver. Regardless of the truth if a statement is repeated enough over and over, people take it as gospel and not only believe, but are a part of the problem by repeating and defending the statement.

Just hang out on the Canucks board, you will see this first hand.

I thought he did sound disappointed at first but who cares. Once the dust settled he realized he was going to have a great new home and be part of a future young team .

Even if he did want to play in his home town , I think once he got here he loved it.

Or switch him with Kassian. Doesn't do anything during regular season but always a beast in the playoffs it seems.

Did you note that Eller just signed for $3.5 for four years. Pretty good deal, at least from my perspective

Good deal? When guys with career bests of 16g/30pts are cheap at $3.5 million it's time for another lockout.

The 4 years are something like 2.5 for the first two then 4.25 and 4.75. He has been getting better. It's his defensive duties are why he is getting that much. Think Jordan staal, Dave Bolland.

Bickel doesn't perform in the regular season and has only performed once in the playoffs, and we're not a playoff team. Tanev will be better than Leddy, if not already. This looks like a deal to get Chi out of a cap problem, hard to believe it came from a Canuck fan.

Like Alex Burrows 5 G 10 A @ 4.5 mil?

Daniel Sedin 16 G 31 A @ 7 mil? Type deals?

No he hasn't. Didn't equal or better any career highs last year and had a career worst +/- with those defensive responsibilities. A value comparison to Staal or Bolland is ridiculous at this point.

That's what they will make and I doubt Burrows scores 16 without playing on the twins wing so you can't say one contract is good and the other is bad.

Fair enough, but if you watched him near the end of the season and into the playoffs he was great (and he's just coming into that magical 26-29 zone, where players tend to break out.

Unfortunately that's just the market these days, so based on that and his improved play I think it's a decent deal

A few stats to help you.
Jordan staal career best 50 points. Last year 40. 6 million a year.
Dave Bolland. Career best 47 points. Last year 12. New contract 5.5.
Lars eller career best 30 points. Last year 26 points. New contract 3.5 a year.
Eller is only in his 4th year. Even if he tops out at 30 a season that's about 1 million for every 10 points.

Wow staal hasn't put up more then 40 in 2 years without Crosby or Malkin. That's about 1.5 for every 10 points.

Bolland has 2 years of 37 as his second best season. That's about 1.75 for every 10 points.

Seems like a decent deal to me.

That is a terrible (frank)ing contract. If you're using that as a comparison you need firmer ground to stand on

I agree bickell is garbage in the regular season. He's big though and I thought we were trying to make the playoffs. That's all I want him for lol. Leddy has 31 and 37 in two full 82 game seasons. Tanev unfortunately hasn't played a full season yet and has 17 points for a high.

I love watching Tanev play. I doubt he will ever put up 30 in a season though. (I hope I'm wrong). we got rid of garrison, could use a scoring D.

All I've read are quite positive reviews (although of course last season was less then spectacular, to say the least). All reviews/summaries aside, though, he had a great playoffs (and yes, I realize it's a small sample size but having a player who can step up when it matters, is a great asset to have).

I think the key component, however, is that he understands that he needs to work on all facets of his game, which shows maturity and a commitment to get to that next level.

We'll have to see how much (if any) improvement he'll make this coming year. I have a feeling he will do quite well but only time will tell of course.
