i think it's less about minutes than it is about matchups. if Plekanec takes the top D assignment, and DD/Pacioretty draw the other team's top D unit, that allows Eller's line a fair fight to put up points... probably going against another team's second line. so it only makes sense to give him the better wingers. offensive output is not always related to minutes played. it can be easier to put up offense with 15 sheltered minutes than 21 hard minutes.
