Late to the party but here is a thought:

I can't think of wingers playing with Plekanec for the shutdown role (I like the gallies with Plekanec for offence but not as a shutdown, I also don't like Bourque shutting down either and don't think Sekac is ready for that). Moen, Prust and Weise can do it short term.

Anybody think Winnik would be a good signing to replace Gionta as Plek's shutdown winger?

We could have something like this:

Pacio-DD-parenteau (kicking ass)
Chucky-Eller-gally (exploitation offence)
Winnik-Plek-bournival (awesome shutdown)
Prust-Mal-weise (4th)
Moen,Bourque

Then I try to trade Bourque and Goalie for another piece, even a prospect or pick

What do you guys think?

Im pretty sure since the arbitration was initiated by Subban, that the habs have the choice of the contract length (being 1 or 2 years).

I'd prefer to see Parenteau with Pleks or Eller. DD & Patches game should be speed oriented, and Parenteau is a little on the slow side (part of why they moved him from the speedy Avs if you ask me).

As for Pleks, I'm hoping Malhotra coming in can take some of the load off Pleks in terms of shut down and defensive responsibility, and I think that was the idea in signing him. Malhotra is actually one of my favourite free agent signings over the last few years, great addition in my opinion, especially for the money.

Agreed, Malhotra was a solid signing and will fit in great on the 4th but I don't think Prust-Malhotra-weise would shutdown the Crosbys of the league so we still need Plekanec in a 2-way role. I'm just not convinced he'll do as great shutting down with Parenteau or Sekac on his wing. I'd rather see Gally, Chucky, Parenteau, Sekac etc in offensive roles instead of the hardest competition.

Gionta-plek were great shutting down last year, I think Winnik would be an upgrade over Gionta (especially size)

I'd put Parenteau with Eller and Galchenyuk in that case.

Not sure what to do with Bournival. He doesn't have a 4th line spot, but I find he wasn't able to finish at all last year, which would make me hesitant to put him on one of the top 3 lines. He's kind of a limbo player right now

I don't think Gionta is allowed to walk if MB and MT don't believe that Bournival fills that role next to Plekanec shutting down the other team's best.

True, he still needs to grow offensively but being the fastest skater would benefit Plekanec on the breakout and ESPECIALLY on the forecheck. So i definitely see bournival given a chance with Pleks next year if nothing changes... Bourni-Plek-gally would be our best bet now for the role Plekanec is give... I unno I still Winnik with Pleks. If Winnik can get 30pts with Koivu I definitely thinkhe can do it with Pleks in the east

They would of never offered near what Buf gave him tho... I'm sure they tried to keep him at 1 year

Let's say you are right. Then it means they saw Bournival in that spot after one more season. Under this idea, looks like Bournival will have learn faster than expected.

Just finished watching the expendables 3, and holy crap it sucked. Thank god I didn't waste money at the cinema. Best part of the movie is Arnold yelling "let's get to the chopper" in his crappy English.

Bournival is ready to do anything MT gonna ask...that kid can skate and got heart + leadership !!! still very young... i dont want him as a 4th line player all year...im sure is the kind of guy that will step up when injury will occure

If he play as good as I think, well MB can start looking for some help in defence and Trading someone in front + one def like Emelin or Gilbert for a better Defenceman

for now it look like one of gilbert or Weaver will play on 2nd def line on the right side... it's not so strong i :S we already have Emelin on top 4 and i dont love him at all... the guy can hit ok but always in trouble, he never win BIG battle at the end of a shift in corners...always get cought out of position....a lot of people say that the reason why it's because they are not playing him on is good side (LEFT) Let see what happen with him ...

Still cant believe they trade gorges instead of Emelin... i'll never understand that move !!!

Sorry, but Bournival has zero offensive skills. He is a 4th line player, maybe with more experience 3rd line. But for now, with guys like Prust and Moen as veteran ahead of him, if there is no injury he will probably be the 13th forward eating hotdogs in the press room.

In the 2nd half of the season and during the PO Bournival was ahead of Moen in the depth chart. He is much more than a 4th liner and is already defensively responsible at his age. Look for him to play with Plekanec sooner or later this season.

I have to agree with this.

He's got the tools be effective, and his game is good in all areas except finishing offensively. If he can start being an effective player in the offensive zone, I think he'll rise up the depth chart fairly fast, but until then he's stuck trying to make the starting 12.
