I think that Tampa is definately more competitive now .. But if you remove Stamkos from the Bolts and but him on the Leafs and think 2 years down the road..

The other thing noone talks about is, would the Leafs even going to be able to fit him under the cap? Don't they have a lot of high dollar players signed for a long time? I didn't take the chance to look at it closely, but something to think about.

Actually think TO is in good shape there. Guys like JVR signed for 4.25 for the next 4 years.. Kessel deal at 8 is going to look real good in 2 years..

With the NHL deal in place and those $$ coming in the cap will be going up significantly.

I doubt it stamkos will sign his extension ASAP with tampa! He won't risk injury he will lock up his money.

Phaneuf will have to go but cap will be up at least 6 million give that and most of Dions $$ to Stamkos.

I'm with you on this. He might be a little overpaid for what he is, but after the Niskanen and Orpik deals, maybe not all that much considering the going rate of UFA d-men.

He's a steady, all-around guy with decent mobility (yes, he is...), a great shot, okay hands and a physical edge. He can log a ton of minutes and is so-so positionally. Put that all together and I think he's a very good #2 and an excellent #3.

No, he isn't Weber, Doughty, Keith, Pietrangelo, Subban, Chara or even Hedman.... but who cares? When it comes to true #1 D-men there are only a handful out there, and several (Hedman and Pietrangelo for example) have really only shown that prowess for a couple of seasons, so while their upside may be higher than Phaneuf's, their current value as of writing this isn't miles beyond.

People need to lay off Dion, especially Leafs fans... run him out of town and you're going to miss him immediately when Gardiner becomes your #1. Eeeesh, poor Bernier....

Coincidentally, I still think Leafs fans severely under-rated Gunnarson.

Ok so the exact topic of this blog is Stamkos coming to Toronto in 2 years when his deal is up and how competitive a team would have to be for him to go there as it will be a huge factor for him.

I post a couple of paragraphs trying to assess how competitve TO will be in 2 years and this makes me a Richard?

Ok .. I will post pics of Kate Upton asking how nice everyone thinks her rack is or use this forum to get advise on what to get my nephew for his birthday..

Would that make everyone feel more comfortable?

I think dion is a great defenseman no doubt I'd even pay him 7 million a year! But the 7 year term ugh no freaking way.

So just a question but why does everyone seem certain he demands the max? which at 20% in 2 years could be 15 or 16...I don't think he does.. anyone who really wants to win like him will take a little less to be surrounded by better players like Toews and Kane did.. regardless of where he signs..
