Don't EVER compare Ryan Callahan to David Clarkson again. Callahan is tiers ahead of Clarkson and is worth every penny of his contract. He's actually a top-6 winger capable of consistently scoring 20+ goals and was an NHL captain. David Clarkson is an above-average bottom-6 winger at best. - rangerdanger94

Hey I'm a lightning fan while Marty St. Louis upset me I still pull for the guy and I always like Moore and Dan Boyle when they played here. |

I think in future Stralman blogs, you should use the advanced stats more accurately. They need to be adjusted for zone starts and should only use "Close" (1 goal game or tie game) situations. Stralman still has unbelievable Corsi, however his QoC is adjusted a lot more accurately.
Simply put: in the past 2 seasons, he's faced the easiest competition out of any other defender on our team while Staal has faced the 2nd hardest. Just last season alone, he faced the 4th hardest competition out of anybody on our team while Staal again faced the 2nd hardest. - rangerdanger94
I'll bite.
Stralman's zone starts were negative compared to those of his teammates this past season (not as bad as Staal's though).

I suggest reading these two pieces, which argue that QoC and Zone Starts don't really matter when it comes to analysis. These are from the site you linked me to.
http://hockeyanalysis.com...-of-competitionteammates/
http://hockeyanalysis.com...one-starts-really-matter/
And, again, Stralman's QoC was virtually the same as Staal's this year.
http://www.extraskater.co...s=D&sort=qoc_toi&team=nyr
The HART stuff shows how much of a deviation there is from what's expected for the team. You're correct in the sense that Stralman's competition was worse than anticipated. Much worse. In the case of the Corsi numbers you cite, it shows that Stralman's competition was worse, but not necessarily that they were horrible like you're implying. You can read more on that here.
http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/about.php
And we can go back to the QoC numbers from ExtraSkater to verify that.
In summary... QoC and Zone Starts aren't all that important (this from the site you linked me to). HART shows a deviation from the expected. |

Tampa fans loved tallying Callahan's points and comparing them to MSL's points after every regular season game after the deadline....that ended real quick once the playoffs started - rangerdanger94
Marty St. Louis will out score Callahan by a mile! But palat Johnson drouin stamkos and flipper will pick up the lost points for Marty. Are team was so soft glad we kept Callahan we need the grit. |

Stralman will hopefully be a really solid three/four guy for the Lightning. That's all I'm hoping for and expecting. |

Staal will hopefully return to #1 defender status for the Rangers. That's all I'm hoping for and expecting and quite frankly, he was damn close to that level last year and Stralman deserves credit for being a great partner. |

McDonagh is and should be the number one guy, IMO.
Hopefully Staal gets over his injury issues, which have obviously plagued him over the past three seasons. |

McDonagh will be the #1 guy but when I say I want Staal to return to #1 status I strictly mean his level of play. He can play 25-30 minutes a game and shut down Ovechkin, Crosby, Giroux, Stamkos, Kane, Kopitar, Lucic, etc. when he's at his best. |

Yeah it'd pretty something if he could keep up those Corsi numbers.
He should be a solid #4 |

I don't know if I'd clarify shutdown guys as #1's. To me a #1 can do it all, and all of it really well. (Keith, Chara, Subban, Sutter, Weber)
Staal when on his game was a solid #2, or great #3 to me. |

Well this has been pretty Laff- able. I see you're still feeding the trolls, so what is this the new norm taking Ek's strategy writing some good stuff but leaving just enough controversy to still the trolls up mixing with a big fan base to pump up the hits?
I hope Stralman doesn't do a Lindback on us because this site will be brutal with the Rags fans. Looks like the Laff fans will be here for awhile. Stirring up a Stamkos to Toronto for them works better than Cialis seeing they've been impotent for years.
This was a good site but it's quickly becoming the New Garth. |
