They'll end, even if he isn't the author. The Wheel of Time ended after Robert Jordan died. Though TWOW is set to come out in late 2015, so hey, there's hope.

Martin has stated multiple times he won't leave notes for anyone regarding the end. It's his story, and he doesn't want it finished by anybody but him.

And trust me, I am hoping he can finish it. I've spent the majority of my life waiting to see how this plays out.

He wrote everything down though, he has notes and note and notes, the one guy allowed to visit his house (The dude who runs a website for him) said he has like 5000000 pages of poop around his house just on the genialigies and stuff. I'm sure somebody could piece it together if they had to in the end. The Show runners know the ultimate ending, and sadly if he died, they at least would know the end, extrapolate it backwards etc.

Jon may be AA, but I have no doubt Stannis would be an awesome king. If he was in charge, murderers would be headless, rapists would be penisless, and thieves would be handless.

It was ok, that series got too convoluted and big for its own good anyways.
