That's a funny story. Goalies and catchers are an odd bunch.

Our soccer team suffered the same a
Fate as your hockey team. We were tweeters. Too good for tier 2 but not good enough for tier 1

Hey I was a catcher.....hmmm....well, never mind

My son played a game early last season and they showed up with 6 skaters. Early in the first my son takes a slap shot and knocks one of their defensemen out of the game. I have no idea why but at the beginning of the second they decided to just skate four players and keep a sub on the bench.

They beat our team 5-2.

My roller team was pretty good. We were the #1 Junior Olympic puck team back when I was 14 (playing 15/16 division) about 17 years ago. We played a team that had 4 and a goalie. We all knew them, and we all knew how good they were. They beat us 8-0, and when we got a PP, they just killed the clock with 3 skaters with little effort. That was hard to take.

Sort of like Emrick who has dissed the Flyers on TV when working Devils games being at best tolerant when he covers games with the Flyers on national TV. Greatest sacrilege to have national guys like that especially if your team is in the finals and dribbles faint mocking praise if they win the cup

Moron combover halfwit, Emrick is someone who I hate.

My girls soccer team was pretty dang good, and as we got older most of the other female teams fell apart. Our closest competitors were a good 6 hour drive away at one point. Soooo the league in my home town let us play the boys. Which was fun and different. Most of them kicked the snot out of us although we tied their worst place team, and we scored more than you'd think. There was one guy (on one of the better teams) who used to run with his hands in his pockets (a calculated insult) right up until I fouled the crap outta him. He'd take his hands out of his pockets around me after that. I won state with that team, and in Texas that's nothing to sneeze at. When the team finally fell apart I ended up on a dang good high school team who wasn't allowed to compete for state until my junior year (I kid you not) and that year we made it into the top 16 teams - a pretty cool accomplishment I felt.
Sadly no hockey in my home town, I missed my calling.

At some point Emrick decided he had to use every single synonym for pass that he could. It becomes annoying. I was watching the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and he did not speak like that.

Mkay bud I dunno if this is a dig at me, but that seems about right, considering I didn't start watching/remember things until then...I'm 20. Not trying to soil his name or anything...didn't know there was such a stigma.

Excuse me, please.

- Giroux_Is_God

Not a dig.

I realize that that nickname became prevalent before he passed away. I just know that up until I moved to CT in 1997, that I had never heard him called that.

I have been equally perplexed by the change in the cadence of "Let's Go Flyers" such that it is same cadence as the "Let's Go Rangers" chant at MSG. Someone on this board once offered up the suggestion that it had to do with fan turnover after the 2004-05 lock-out.

I'll take JJ any day of the week. Emrick's voice has only gotten more screechy and annoying as he has gotten older. And the human thesaurus routine is terrible to listen to.

Hackson is brutal. People just have their thongs in a twist b/c Emerick went to the Devils and called multiple Stanley Cups. If Emerick had stayed with the Flyers he would be treasured.

I used to be a soccer goalie and our team won our division allowing only one goal against the entire season. We thought we were great until we got to state and lost pretty much every game. There was hockey in my home town (not as a school sport), but I only knew of one guy at my school who played.

EDIT: Maybe it wasn't state because there was a team from Memphis there, but it was similar to state.
