I think Megna, payerl, and uher will be in PL3 spot. Megna probably the favorite

If PL3 plays over any of those guys, I will hate the new coaching staff.

I don't see Downie staying up there unless Sid is getting beat up too much.

You also forgot Despres and Scuderi on D.

Other than that, I agree... I think the fact that we have depth will over ride the fact that we lost Neal. Let me be real here, Neal was a 25 goal scorer, pretty much, except for a 30 goal season... until he came to Pittsburgh. That sounds a lot like Hornqvist. The only difference is that Hornqvist seems to go to the net, when Neal didn't.

Last season, the Pens couldn't roll four lines. They didn't have the depth to keep up the momentum without either Sid or Geno being out there. This year, it seems, will be different.

Thoughts?

Pretty much agree.

I think folks will learn just how much we truly will not miss James Neal by, oh, game 5.

PH isn't going to score more goals than Neal this season. Neal will get first PP time in Nashville. He'll get the prime shifts down there.

But, PH should net somewhere around 25-30. He'll bring more to the table in the leadership, stability, good teammate departments. He'll be a better influence on 87 and 71.

And, most important, next April, he'll hopefully show up and be able to score the dirty playoff type goals as opposed to being a perimeter player like Neal.

Lars Eller...3.5M per...4 years.

Hmmm...this doesn't help the argument that Sutter isn't worth the same money...

His straight stats at 25 years old:
NHL TOTALS GP=286 G=45 A=58 PTS=103 -14 ==> .36 points per game

Sutter also at 25 - played in 129 more games:
NHL TOTALS GP=415 G=77 A=75 PTS=152 2 ==> .36 points per game

Theres been better going for less... its supply and demand, and team need vs team want...

We don't "need" Sutter, we would "like"/"want" to keep Sutter (except for bartley, he wants Sutter publically tarred and feathered).

They may not need Sutter but they need a 3rd line center.

Sutter may not need 3.5M...but he probably wants it because he sees that other guys with very similar track records can get it.
