Team doesn't suck anywhere near enough to win the lottery, but just enough to pick 5th to 14th every year... - BINGO!
Can't you win the lottery from being in the bottom 12 now? Or was that not in effect yet?
My memory sucks on things that won't apply to the Penguins in the near future |

I don't think so this year. Not a lots been going good for you guys recently. How are some of the prospects over there? Anybody ready this year? - Topshelf Mountain
Ryan Murphy should be ready to go. Elias Lindholm will be better with an actual role on the team (Kirk Muller alienated half the team last year.)
Zach Boychuk looks like he's FINALLY ready for the show. |

A lot of me wants you to be wrong this year. Living in the South I'm selfishly hoping another Southern team - aside from the Panthers - gets McDavid. The new regime in place might be able to get the most out those guys with a better system. |

What are you talking about? Beau Bennett is still technically a prospect, and we also have two other blue chip forward prospects in Kapanen and Bryan Rust. - Victoro311
I definitely don't consider Bennett a prospect. So outside that the pens have Kapanen.....and 2-3 others that have shown some upside while playing against below average talent. |

Imagine the next generation. Multiply three Staals by lets say, three more a piece? That's 9 Staals in the NHL in a few decades, and there's always a chance that one or more of the Staals have more than three Staallets.
I know what you're thinking. "Hey Vick. What if they have daughters?" Staals only produce male heirs. Next question.
"What about Jared. You left out the fourth Staal." Jared is and always will be a coward. He will be locked in a cage in Marc's basement's basement and will not be allowed to reproduce. |

Yeah.... He's a true tweener.... Too good for the AHL, not good enough for the NHL. In the last 2 years he's been waived by more NHL teams than goals he's scored. |

The only scary part of that is knowing that Rutherford drafted him lol. Oh well, I guess you can say it's all on the scouts anyway. |

he was very highly thought of as a prospect. for whateer reason it's just never clicked for him at the NHL level. No doubting his talent, though. |

Yesterday we were talking about the Avalanche having interest in Sutter. Anyone think a Sutter for McGinn trade would make sense? Maybe add/modify wherever but just as a basis for a trade? |

I'm drooling over the Lars Eller deal. I don't know what it is about him, I mean, his numbers aren't really all that good, but I'd love to have in on this team for 3.5 over the next 4 years. Maybe its because he kinda looks a little like Jordan Staal.
Guarantee that on this team, he'd be better than Sutter, and we're probably gonna end up paying Sutter more than him. |

Hes a good sized C coming into his prime with a lot of potential. Flank him with some talent, he could be a solid C.
Europe is starting to turn out more solid players lately. Seemed like there was a drought for a while. |

Yeah his numbers last season did not merit the 3.5, but he put up super solid numbers during the lock out season, and his potential is well documented. Add in the fact that Montreal's forwards aren't impressive and you can really see how this seemingly idiotic contract could be a hell of a bargain if he was a Pen.
He has better size than Sutter and is definitely more offensively gifted, and is developing a nice 2 way game, so remind me why we're about to pay that guy more. If people could stomach putting Dupuis on the third, Eller, Duper, and Spaling or Downie could be a destructive 3rd line. Very responsible in our own end and very above average scoring potential for a third unit. |

So Letang and Sutter for Patches and Eller
Seriously though, any deal to be made with Sutter for McGinn? |

How much do we honestly need another 3rd line winger? If we're gonna trade Sutter it should be for a position of need, unless his contract is so outlandish that we just need to dump it. |

We don't need another one. We need top 6...plain and simple. Been preaching that for weeks. But, just comparing the two, I would find McGinn more useful to our team than Sutter. It was just a thought!
What I really want is to steal Coyle out of Minnesota (or find a way to get Marleau) in a Martin deal. Martin and Sutter could both be dangled in those scenarios. |

In all seriousness is there any package that we can cook up to steal Gustav Nyquist away from Detroit? I know he's almost untouchable, but are they desperate enough for D me that we can make a Martin package that they'd accept? |

I think you'd have to offer Martin and two prospects for it to happen. Two prospects being a solid forward and defensemen. It's not worth it. Had he not scored 37864 goals in the final 30 games, than yes. But that kid blew his chances of playing in Pitt. |

Yeah, two D prospects might be worth it if it was a blue chipper and then a not so mucher. Thinking maybe Despres and Samuelsson there, but a forward prospect isn't worth it. At this point in time I wouldn't even give up a guy like Dia or Sundqvist. We need them too badly. |

I don't understand that logic. If you are getting a good young forward, it lessens the need of young forward prospects.
And that's not to say I would do that deal, but you can let a forward go if you are getting one back. |

I agree it lessens the blow if we have an NHL ready young winger. Kapanen is untouchable but otherwise why not. We have to think towards the future in this case, and we will be phasing out Kunitz and Dupuis.
I would give up Martin, Samuelsson/Despres, and Zlobin. But those pieces may be too mediocre to get it done from Detroits perspective. Someone hit the nail on the head earlier when they said Nyquist has over inflated value. Edit - not sure if Sutter would work into Detroits plans...I wouldnt mind trying Martin and Sutter package.
Tatar might be had for Martin + B prospect. |
