but you can always check out the hockey news prospect review where the leafs were 29th ranked if you want to save time. It is what it is, i hope we win the cup but im not going to claim we have a sick future when we don't. - clark_griswold
You do realize that these people don't always know what they're talking about right?
In 2006, Lucic was drafted at number 50. 13 spots before that, Boston had another pick and took Yuri Alexandrov. Their scouts were a little off on that one, and so were many others.
Brad Marchand was selected at 71, Clutterbuck at 72.
2007 PK Subban was drafted at 43. 61 Wayne Simmonds. 129 Jamie Benn. 173 Nick Bonino. 194 Carl Gunnarsson,
2008 - 51 , Derek Stepan, 82 - Adam Henrique, 121 - Nyquist, 156 - Jared Spurgeon, 177 - Tommy Wingels,
So that's just a look at some NON - First round picks that scouts, and places like "Hockey's Future" all ranked as being low end prospects that would probably have little to no success in the NHL.
Leaf fans have a right to be excited that Brown lead the OHL in scoring. That Verhaeghe was 21st in OHL scoring. That Rupert was 30th in Scoring. That Matt Finn was second in defensive scoring. that Johnson has an amazing year playing against men in Sweden. That Nylander looks like a high potential pick. |

I am not completely disagreeing.. but what years are you talking about?
anything from 2011 on..we dont know anything yet - senstroll
I'm ready to call 12' a success - Rielly. If he doesn't develop into a top end defenceman it won't be because he wasn't a very good pick.
07' thru 10' look poopty except for Kadri. And I'm not going to give the Leafs scouting dpt too much credit for that pick. |

1999 draft.
9 players drafted by Leafs.
3 NHL games total.
Yeah, I know, not quite fair due to Luca Cereda, but still... - Atomic Wedgie
I'm not even saying I would've done anything different. It's just really frustrating to see. If Billy Beane can fix it, I'll be a happy camper. |

Let's just not go to the 90's.... as a Habs fan those were very, very tough times. - Scabeh
How about 1996 for the Leafs?
First 12 guys they picked were complete crap (21 NHL games, total).
If they didn't luck out with Kaberle in the 8th round, they would have been better just pulling a St. Louis Blues and not showing up. |

the difference between hitting him in the head or the chest in a couple inches... i don't blame the guy making the hit unless its one of the ones in the numbers (even then if the player getting hit spins last second like your also taught not to then i don't)... i still feel its way more on the player getting hit to not put themselves in a vulnerable position like that... i know nowadays safety is a concern but i still think they've gone about it the complete wrong way... should be trying to increase receiving player responsibility more than the hitter IMO... but like i said before this excludes the blatant hits to the numbers and so forth... obviously not a black and white issue I'm just a different shade of grey than whats going on - DarcyTucker16
Against the boards, in a fast/confusing piece of action? It's a game of millimeters and milliseconds, but if you watch that hit on Booth from Richards, he had all day long to make a decision and to target the body; he was head-hunting, without a doubt, and that's not a "good old days" play in my mind. |

You guys should show some respect to Adam French, the guy is a god among men where he lives, he's the only person with more than 3 teeth left. |

Stamkos:
"I try not to focus about that stuff," he said. "I think that's the great thing about playing in Tampa is hockey isn't the mecca that it is here in Toronto and you can kind of go about your life and kind of get away from the game when you need to."
"I'm from around here and grew up cheering for the Leafs, so any time I get a chance to come back here I enjoy it, and any time I get a chance to play against the Leafs it's fun," he said. "It's also fun beating them, too, because a lot of my friends are still Leaf fans."

Last guy picked first round: Shawn Belle.
Mrs. Atomic Wedgie played in a hockey tournament in Kitchener the year the Team Canada Juniors held their December pre-WJC camp - in the same arena.
So I watched quite a bit of the WJ practices - and Shawn Belle was the best skater I'd ever seen. Like, better than Coffey kinda skater.
I was sure he was going to be an NHL star.
Yeah, my scouting skills aren't exactly the greatest. |
