I read reports on rookies written by guys who pretend to know their poop.
- Pea-Brain

I thought we all did the same thing here

Google the name we never heard of, then come back and provide our analysis of the guy we just read about 5 seconds ago

oh then do up a lineup with them on the 3rd line

I've always said that the problem I had with it was that he needed to get that top centre to compliment him. I think his plan was always to get that Getz-Perr combo and his big horse on D and run with it like he had with the Ducks. He just couldn't find his Getzlaf.

should have kept Stajan

sounds about right, we then predict 15-20 goals the first year and 20-25 the 2nd year for all these guys.

I have a lot of problems with it.

Our goalie was Toskala. He had just pooped the bed the season before, and then went and had two hip surgeries.

Our centre was Stajan.

Cammi literally showed up at the ACC on July 1st, hoping to become a Leaf. Burke sent him away without considering a deal.

And then you don't "protect" the 1st round picks you hand to Boston?

Ya the list could go on ....more generally - if you were going all in on Kessel you better have the deals ready for the other pieces to ensure you're not making a mistake.

You all know me as a guy who drinks the Koolaid, and a guy who's mantra is patience with our youth and not rushing to judgement. But I was bored today and looking at the 2011 draft.....

Out of the 30 guys taken in the first round, 20 guys have played NHL games, 19 of which played more than 10. games Out of the 10 guys that haven't seen an NHL rink....2 of them are Leaf picks Stuart Percy and Tyler Biggs......

Now out of the 60 guys taken in the first round and second round.....37 guys have played an NHL game. And we own 2 of the 23 that haven't. That's kind of frustrating.

A lot of ppl say that but we could of easily drafted Gudbranson with Burke in charge and for the 9th overall pick we could of easily drafted a bust. I believe Boston got the best possible value with the picks they got with Seguin and Hamilton. There is no way the leafs would of drafted better than that.
- JVR_42_PK81

While I see what you are getting at (I actually argue all the time that the Leafs wouldn't have drafted Scott Niedermayer if we had that pick), I'm going to have to disagree with you here.

That draft was the Tyler/Taylor show. Those guys were going 1-2, no matter which teams were picking.

No way in hell Burkie would have taken a defenceman instead of Tyler or Taylor.

As for Hamilton, yeah, coulda been anyone.

Leafs have drafted rather poorly over the last few years.

I love screwing around on the HockeyDB draft by year and by team charts.

Just give me a time machine, and in three years I could build the Leafs a dynasty.

Bah you could go back almost 10 years now I guess....

It's not that they haven't drafted anyone decent, hell they even drafted some pretty good players over that span.... just not enough to stay competitive.

1999 draft.

9 players drafted by Leafs.

3 NHL games total.

Yeah, I know, not quite fair due to Luca Cereda, but still...

Let's just not go to the 90's.... as a Habs fan those were very, very tough times.
