As far as the comparison, I could get into semantics about each player's game, I think O'Reilly is better in his own end, and away from the puck, yada yada. But if you want to simply look at last years production O'Reilly commands a higher asking price.

Should there be a 3mil gap between the two players? No. But that's not because O'Reilly shouldn't get 6, it's because Stepan is on an old deal. If he were signing right now, he'd be getting more than 3.

He did have 44 points in 48 games the year prior. Now, O'reilly is better on faceoff and I don't watch enough Avs games to speak to is d zone play but they play almost the exact same amount of PP and PK time.
