He's so deserving they pulled out all the stops and awarded him with an incredibly enticing one year contract?

If I had to guess they have a nice, multi-year deal more or less agreed to but because of the cap constraints they've shelved that for now. Don't be surprised to see Zucc sign a four or five year deal with an AAV in excess of $4MM signed and done by next February. The signs point to this as inevitable. In the interim, this deal helps the team stay cap compliant while re-signing Brassard, Kreider and Moore. Just my guess but I feel good about it.

That makes sense, but now the NY brass have to worry about him skipping town should the Rags have an off season. I just think it's a little dangerous management on NY's part to not get a guy like Zucc locked down for 3 - 5 years.

Seems like a great deal for the NYRs to me. I understand the risk but Zucs also takes on risk that he is injured or has a down year.

there is no doubt in my mind they have a separate agreement in place long term for more $$$ that they are going to sign on January 1st.

This one year deal was done simply to help the team with it's tight cap situation this season, Zucc loves NY

Zuccarello said shortly after that it was “brilliant” to sign for one-year and worked out for both sides right now. Zuccarello also said that he was happy to avoid arbitration for the second straight summer.

He added that with the Rangers cap situation where it is, it was best to sign for one year. He adds that it makes him a free agent next summer but he is happy to be with the Rangers and feels that it’s “my club.”

This is what I wanted to hear, I just hope come January Sather does not drag his feet, didn't think I could like this kid even more but he's got a crap load of integrity

Yea...I think what it comes down to is kreider looks at hagelins bridge deal and thinks he should be getting paid more than that, less than stepans. The argument in favor of hagelin is his consistency while kreider hasnt had that until last season. But kreider also didn't play 4 on 4 situations in OT last year even cuz of his defensive deficiencies so who knows.

Yea it could go either way...I just don't want the Rangers trashing him at all in the hearing. It can only lead to bad blood down the line when it comes to Kreider deciding if he wants to sign a long term deal. Gotta find a way to get it done.

I am actually not that worried, given the relatively small gap between the sides, that the Rangers are going to go into the hearing in trash him. I think the hearings with Avery and Zherdev were much different, because I don't think the Rangers were enamored with either player, and didn't see them as long term options with the club, which caused them to be more aggressive in making their case.

With Kreider, I expect they will soft pedal it a little -- i.e., Chris is player with great potential, and we see him as a future star, but he needs to prove it. He hasn't been consistent. He had a lost year in 2013. He started the year in the minors, and only really has started to reach his potential this year. These are things that Kreider has already heard, and I actually think he probably agrees with some of them.

Did I say this team is gonna fail, why would this effect their potential this season, I have a problem with how he treats homegrown players, this is why players like Callahan got greedy, how many times can you see Sather roll out the red carpet and throw unwarranted money at guys like Redden, Drury, Gomez and Richards then not expect to get paid yourself when you've already poured your heart and soul out on the ice? I'm not against the Callahan trade because it was above and beyond what he's actually worth but I don't blame Cally for one second
- KreiderBomb

I dont think you understand the concept of what a GM and President is suppose to do. Sather is doing HIS job. Its not his job to be buddy buddy with the players. He's charged to put together the best roster he can, within the cap constraints. That means leveraging advantages when he has them (RFA's), spending when he needs to win bidding wars (UFAs), and trading assets when they become too costly and getting worthwhile returns for what we are losing. Based on his job description, he's doing a pretty damn good job. And based on his results, perennial playoff team save 1 year since 2005, more playoff round wins than any other team in the past 8 years, a cup final, a conference final, and countless 2nd round appearances. What more do you want? How many fans have gotten to watch their team compete in the post season 8 times in the last 9 years?

If you followed Zuccarello's NHL career, he's basically indicated multiple times that he has no intention to ever play anywhere other than NY. He's taken 2 hometown discounts. The kid just doesn't want to be anywhere other than NYC, its just not about the money for him.

Kreider's defensive game is miles behind Hagelins. He's got explosive offensive ability, but has yet to really understand the 2 way game. Hagelin also killed penalties for us, blocked a decent amount of shots, etc... Kreider is a good hockey player, but he's not worth near 3M yet. He needs to prove he can hit those numbers again and show some defensive minded ability.

Got to remember -as sather said- Zucc has only had one good
Season; i love the player but is that enough to warrant a big and long
Contract? The league is rarely
Sensible in that regard but still, its only one year.

The Rangers and Chris Kreider have settled on a TWO-YEAR deal worth $2.35 million in year one and $2.60 million in year two. (Tim Wharnsby)

The mid-point between the parties' positions is $2.4 million. I think it is highly likely that the award will come back somewhere between $2.3 and $2.5 million, so IMO, I think we are talking about a 200K delta as to what may actually happen at arbitration. I would be shocked if the award comes back heavly weighed towards one parties number.

Well there it is. Further proof that parties' more often reach a deal when they absolutely have to.

He doesn't have to be buddy buddy like he is with free agents who have never donned the jersey but at least show your own a bit more respect, I'm happy to watch playoff hockey but after 14 years of Sather I've expected to see a Cup being hoisted by now, he gets this leash because of the Mcdonagh trade
