I'm a big fan of Hayes. Think Rutherford should make a play to get him, if possible. He would have a chance to make an early impact a forward, especially with our depleted depth. Gadreau, Hayes and Arnold might have been the second best college hockey line I've seen.

The point of my two posts condensed into a few sentences. This exactly

Saw Toronto's other acquisition yesterday...very interesting.

Ok...here's my question on advanced stats...

Has anybody every done the work to go back and look at a team like say...the LA Kings prior to their first cup run...and look at the players that were on that team...to see what the stats would have said about that team before it was formed?

I would think...at least as some proof of concept or theory maybe...it would be interesting to look at the Kings and the moves they made in the year before their first cup...and see if players brought on board made sense from the before perspective as far as these statistics go.

Pens haven't made news in a while. Predicting one deal gets done today.

The Kings consistently ignore narratives about players and acquire good players with good metrics. Here are two examples, both of which led to championships.

Here is data I compiled showing what a bum Jack Johnson is and why he is one of the most overrated players in hockey. The Kings agreed and were able to land Jeff Carter.

this subject twice resulted in you eating crow on Jeff Carter on your podcast as I recall

Some Flyers fans still won't admit how good he is

Just another example of what happens when you ignore the information available. One of my pre-analytics opinions was proven to be wrong when the answer was so obviously right there.

I always thought he passed the "eye test". Well, maybe not in Columbus, but still. More than just the tired "analytics vs. the eye test" thing, it's an example of narratives being little more than paper thin "facts" to confirm preconceived notions.

For what it's worth, I have heard that since winning their first cup he's become much more dedicated to the game.

Very few Pens fans will ever admit that any flyer player passes the eye test.

I value one number over all the analytical stats you can come up with. In which Jeff Carter always put up decent numbers...goals.

Dammit. Another top 6 player that we were supposed to acquire for pennies on the dollar.

Didn't know it was a dream. He is a good player, but overpaid. He would be a 3rd line center on the Penguins.

Never thought we were going to get him cheap... But how many backup plans for Sutter do we need? We already have Spaling, Goc, and "ahem" Adams...

It's strange... going back to the "Legion of Doom" days (heck, even older guys like Tim Kerr), I've always liked most of the Flyers individually. Same holds true today, but those stupid orange jerseys with that stupid logo (even flyers fans have to admit that it's a dumb logo), and from that stupid city, and that stupid owner, and that stup... ok, nevermind, I'll stop there... You get my point, I hate the Flyers team, but like the Flyers players, I guess... oh, and cheesesteaks...
