If Eberle gets us a top pairing dman (we would have to add), I'm all for it. Problem is, not many are available.

I like Letang but those heart problems are risky (unfortunate circumstance), I can't see any teams taking him on, especially at that salary.

Booth to Toronto. Not a bad signing. Just one year. Didn't see a salary yet.

Maybe I don't have the mental capacity to understand how the lack of penalty minutes has any connection to ones compete level given the fact it's been pretty evident the kid plays a terrific 200 ft game.

I'm with you on being more interested in his aggressive, non-stop motor that plays great at both ends of the ice...the fact that he is 23...and that he would be an excellent addition to our top 6.

Forget the penalty non-sense. It certainly beats the other end of the spectrum (see: Neal, James)

And that wasn't even their most important acquisition of the day.

It's always worth a shot to sign someone else's prospects if they go UFA, but the chance he is going to sign with us seems to be stretched. He would get a lot of playing time in Florida and he has history in Boston. He would be an excellent addition to our system and could be up as soon as next season, helping offset any losses of our one year deal players.

But he's Tom Fitzgeralds cousin!!

Not even close. That front office should have just been burned down and rebuilt from scratch. Not sure how such a hockey mecca can be so bad at finding hockey players.

That last paragraph is cheap. If you don't agree than explain your position. Instead you dismiss the points I've made on the subject with one childish statement.

I dismissed your points in the first paragraph because I think its the least important factor in evaluating ROR. I don't personally think there is a "correct amount of penalties to take" and its better to have someone who takes none than someone who takes many.

Edit: And I certainly don't think penalty minutes are a barometer of effort.

Martin is a top pairing D man. Not saying it would happen.

My company has an office in EDM, so I have this conversation a lot. All the Oil fans think that Eberle or any Oil player the min return is basically Shea Weber.

Yak would bring a prospect, and I have no interest in him.

Good signing. It's not a big risk especially for 1 season. It's no different than the risk we are taking with Downie at the same term/price.

So what's the deal with Sutter and Spaling, why can't they sign already.

Living in CO and hearing about ROR, he's basically holding out for something like $250k. It makes the player douchy when they drag it on.

Meh, it does create that perception. And especially when its known that the team has attempted to make a few fair offers. I just try to put myself in their shoes. I know its a ton of money already but its the same concept guys hitting the open market. There are exceptions to every case, but for the most part I can't blame them.

I don't blame players for hitting the market (Talbot) anyone would do the same in those situations. but when they hold out that's annoying.

Can't argue there. Once you get a fair offer, just take it.

I don't like the term "hold out" though... It's not what he's doing. A hold out is someone who is under contract who refuses to report, he's excising his right as a restricted free agent.

Something about guys who do it more than once rubs me the wrong way, and like I said before, I don't like how he handled it in 2012, but he has the right to go to arbitration.

You got me on that about a week ago and you're right. There's probably a better word for it. It's not so black and white for the parties involved.

If Sutter turned down four years at 3.5, what's next? How is this a recoverable negotiation if he's turned down four offers? Seems like the majority here don't care for him that much anymore either. The pieces are in place to replace him, so without waiting what happens with him?
