As much as I understand that thought process, I just don't know how much more junior hockey can teach him. I know that even Drouin went back, but his size played a part in that. I'm still very much in the camp where if the guy can come in and take that 2C or 3C spot, then I'm all about letting him run with it. In my opinion, every top-end prospect has earned that approach (that includes Nurse). - MaximumBone
Camp, preseason and the 9 game look will be a decent determining factor. If his skating looks good for the NHL and he won't be half a step behind (he wasn't when playing the US at the WHC), then I won't be mad if we keep him up and give him soft minutes. I would prefer to try him at C right off the bat though so he can learn the defense aspect of the position. |

Well said. I'd like to see Nurse make it this year, but there is no need to rush him. He will probably be a lock for the team next year! - ChetManly
I just can't see him jumping Marinin, Nikitin, Ference on the left side. Plus Klefbom and Aulie in the minors. Would like to see him get 9 games though and then play at the WJC! |

For sure. The faster the guy acclimates himself to the defensive game, the better. Everything reputable I've heard about the guy is that he's got a KILLER work ethic (ala Hall) which seems to be a common factor surrounding most- if not all- MacT draft picks!
On an aside, go check out the Oilers website. They've got a Leon interview and the guy has the makings of quite a solid beard for his age |

I don't know if they have any long term plans for Aulie and Nikitin is only two year on a contract. He will go Juniors again this year after this 9 games. Then WJC, then next year, AHL and serve as first call up! |

I like that he specifically mentioned his skating and leg strength in that interview. It'll take more than a summer but strides are strides |

Just for fun, I kind of want to see Oiler fans stance on this:
Would you move Draisaitl as the main piece in a deal if it would land us Galchenyuk? That would mean Yak and Gally reunited. Guaranteed chemistry vs. projected chemistry with Draisaitl and Yak.
I don't think either team ever does this or considers this, but I'm bored, so discuss! - ystoil
Yup. Speeds things along, the Chemistry are all the reason in the world to do it. |

Galchenyuk hasn't played centre in the NHL yet. His style of play is a bit similar to RNH's too. He's 6'1-1.5 but he doesn't really use his size. Draisaitl's a better fit in EDM.
Also wouldn't call it guaranteed chemistry, they played one season together in the OHL against other 16-20 year olds and did well |

I'm not ready to bet on Draisaitl, but it'd be sweet if he came to camp ready for the NHL. If he had a Skinner/Duchene/RNH or even Hall/Landeskog rookie season that' d awesome. Seguin/E Kane like rookie season'd be disappointing n I'd rather he go back to PA |

This. Galchenyuk has done little to prove his better than yak at this point, i don't know that I move LD for someone that really hasn't proved anything and appears to be yet another non-physical winger. Is he even more physical than Eberle, because he isn't more physical than Yak. |

You'll also hear tons from eastern fans that don't watch the Oilers than Galchenyuk is 10, 20, 50x the defensive player as any of the oilers young forwards (especially Yak). Don't believe it. He's a perfectly unremarkable defensive player who for the most part plays in a fairly sheltered role. People would have you believe he's a rugged two-way centre, where in actuality he's a scoring winger who isn't a defensive liability.
To date that is, he will of course continue to develop. |
