Just for fun, I kind of want to see Oiler fans stance on this:
Would you move Draisaitl as the main piece in a deal if it would land us Galchenyuk? That would mean Yak and Gally reunited. Guaranteed chemistry vs. projected chemistry with Draisaitl and Yak.
I don't think either team ever does this or considers this, but I'm bored, so discuss! |

I'd consider it. Galchenyuk being further along in his development as well as having past chemistry with Yak are two HUGE selling points. However, when you factor in Galchenyuk's injury history and the fact that- while he's listed as the same height as Draisaitl- he isn't quite as heavily built, I begin to lean towards keeping Leon.
When it gets down to it, you're taking two similar players and decide which you prefer as of now; durability, heaviness, and more development time or more proven abilities and history of chemistry with Yak (still not a guarantee to be rediscovered). |

Ya it's definitely a tough call especially since we could use a centre now and Galchenyuk is NHL ready where as Leon we aren't entirely sure on just yet.
I like Draisaitl's style of play and size better for the west but the chemistry and familiarity with Yakupov and Galchenyuk is very enticing. Durability with Gally is another consideration. Missing the time with a broken hand is no big deal, it happens, but the knee injury is concerning if its the same knee that was operated on.

Something else to consider is that Galchenyuk hasn't played C in the NHL yet so he might have picked up a few bad habits while playing LW these past two years. Either way, we're getting a bigger, unproven, playmaking C. |

Yep, definitely a point to consider however he would be a step ahead as he has 100 games to adjust to the speed and strength of NHL players.
At the end of the day, I hope they give Leon time to get his skating better and his defensive game. To me, junior hockey won't hurt him next year. |

As much as I understand that thought process, I just don't know how much more junior hockey can teach him. I know that even Drouin went back, but his size played a part in that. I'm still very much in the camp where if the guy can come in and take that 2C or 3C spot, then I'm all about letting him run with it. In my opinion, every top-end prospect has earned that approach (that includes Nurse). |

Well said. I'd like to see Nurse make it this year, but there is no need to rush him. He will probably be a lock for the team next year! |
