We can make Jultz your number one if you trade Petry to the Wings for stuff. |

Your're probably right, but something tells me Schultz will get a longer term deal like Hall and Ebs, with the hope that the initial overpay will result in a bargain down the road. Schultz is definitely in the Oilers long term plans and that's a good thing...we have yet to see him at his best. |

I'm pretty sure he will get a decent payday, but a part of me thinks he accepts a reasonable bridge under or around 3. Wishful thinking maybe, but no one saw subbans contract coming. |

Sure would. Longer contract, but even at the end of it,when he's a #4-6 D-man, the money will still be fair.
Not sure what the Wings are doing right now, but I wonder if they would ever entertain trading Datsyul, Zetterberg, Franzon and Kronwall and go with more (high-end) youth? |

To your first response:
To your second: I bet they trade Franzen at some point. Kronner, Dats, and Zeke will probably retire Wings. The youth is looking like its just brimming with great players waiting to break out, but Cleary, Quincy, and Gustavsson and other similar players are (frank)ing them over by continuing on in their place. I really am beginning to dislike Ken Holland. |

With their new arena coming, you would think they need to stay competitive. They could probably move 1 or 2 pieces but not all of them until the young guys prove they can carry the team. Detroit missing the playoffs for a few years would hurt them really bad. |

You can also look at it like they are having a chance to be developed properly. Stepping into roles in their prime with a smaller chance of failure and a lot less pressure. - abware
I agree that they are doing the right thing for the most part. But there is such a thing as overripening. The fact that players like Jurco, who has the potential to be a 20-30 goal scorer at this point, go back down the minors in favor of Daniel Cleary, is absurd.
...
How would you guys like back a former Oiler? He's a great playoff performer. |

Probably going to happen anyway. Not being a knob (or at least I'm not trying to be one), but is that really the best course of action ? The Wings can try to just steadily develop young players into NHL'ers, but eventually they are going to need some high end talent. It would be foolish to think they can just pluck the best player in the draft after the 3rd round to get that talent. Why wouldn't they trade those guys for some quality prospects? |

The dude is not worth 3 mill let alone 4 and 5... MacT and his stupid big (frank)ing mouth... - saskoil21
four years at a cap hit of 3.75 million isn't a terrible deal for a guy like Schultz.
We will be paying more than that for Petry to lock him up long term. |

I doubt he signs that....16 million over 4 years is about as cheap as see him going. |

You think that much?
That'll give you five defensemen in the 3-4.5 million dollar range. Lot of middle-range contracts there. And will Petry needing an extension and raise, that could look a little hairy for the blue line. |

Oh (frank) yeah. Think about it. He probably knows he isn't worth that much more than 3 right now, but has the confidence in himself that in 2 years he will worth 6+.
Why sign that long a deal for what he feels will be an eventual underpayment?
I think he signs a 2 yr, 3.25 million per deal. |

well the rationale was to give him 4 upfront and 5 in the last year as a lead-in to his next contract. |
