When it's Steve Perry vs. Scott Stapp...really...no one wins. |

Pert's lyrics are a wee bit over the top!
I always got a kick out of Jeff Buckley's take on Rush's lyrics..that their music could make the worst lyrics sound cool...

Pretty crazy that both Jeff Buckley and his father (famous singer most dont know about) named Tim Buckley, both died young, both from drowning. |

Reminds me of the time the Yankees played the Phillies in the WS and I asked my Mets fan buddy who he was rooting for and he, very sternly, answered "terrorism." |

Actually Tim died of a heroin overdose.
A couple of movies will be coming out about Jeff in the next year or two. The kid remains arguably the most talented muscian I've ever heard. He had the guitar playing abilities of a Hendrix or Van Halen to go along with one of the best singing voices ever. Brilliant songwriter as well. Jimmy Page called him the best singer in music in over 30 years. Pretty cool. |

I could be wrong, but Tim Buckley wrote and sang the song "Once I Was a Soldier," from the movie Coming Home, no? That is a gut wrenching scene, if I've ever seen one. |

He drowned after a late night swim. I read it in a book. Agreed about Jeff Buckley and his version of HALLELUJAH is the best of anyone who's covered it.
Jimmy page said Tim or Jeff had the best voice? Funny cause anyone who's ever brought up the best voice I always reference Tim Buckleys "get on top". Sick range |

I've read Dream Brother as well as Pure Drop...but it's all known history. Tim died of a Heroin overdose in bed.

Jeff drowned in the Wolfe River-incidentally, his body washed up at the foot of Beale Street (long considered the 'home of the blues')
Page was referring to Jeff. Both had unreal ranges |

did he really mention Creed??! One of the worse bands ever. they tried so hard to be like Pearl Jam and fell flat on their faces. I mean I am not a huge Rush fan but they are way better than Creed |

His son's take on Cohen's "Hallelujah" is why it's now one of the most covered songs in music. Pure emotion and hauting guitar. Tim was a legend and Jeff appeared ready to surpass that legend but died on the verge of superstardom. |

Hahaha. I was probably stoned and thought I was reading about Jeff Buckley.
Getting an endorsement like that from Jimmy Page is pretty legit. You should watch the documentary "it might get loud" if you haven't already. |

Yeah, I've seen it..pretty good.
The acolades for Buckley were coming from virtually everywhere...Neil Pert, Page, Robert Plant, Jeff Beck, Clapton, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Paul McCartney...all of these guys were showing up to his shows regularly and singing his praises. It's insane when you read just how many of these musical legends were in awe of the kid. |

Yeah, I missed the boat on him when he first came out but heard Page mention him in an interview..so Hallelujah was the first song I heard..after it was over I just sat back and went 'wow'.....I think I listened to "forget her' next and that was it...his live stuff was absolutely unreal. I've never heard an untrained musician with the vocal control he had. |

My brother is a musician and turned me on to the album Grace in the 90s. Like father like son |
